Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line: 19-km RV Road–Bommasandra ride likely to cost Rs 60

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is planning to operate trains at 25-minute frequency with stoppages at all stations. The maximum fare from Purple and Green Lines to Yellow Line is Rs 90.

The 19-km ride on Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line between RV Road and Bommasandra is likely to cost Rs 60 when commercial operations commence on August 11.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Yellow Line on August 10 and take a Metro ride from Ragigudda to Electronics City station.

Sources told Moneycontrol that the minimum fare will be Rs 10 from RV Road to Jayadeva, increasing to Rs 20 from BTM Layout, Rs 30 to Bommanahalli, Rs 40 to Kudlu Gate, Rs 50 to Singasandra, and Rs 60 to Electronics City, extending up to Bommasandra, the last station.

The maximum fare from Purple and Green Lines to Yellow Line will be Rs 90. For instance, Whitefield (Purple Line) - Bommasandra (Yellow Line) stretch, one of the longest routes, will cost Rs 90.

BMRCL is likely to offer standard 5 percent discount on smart cards and may also offer an additional 10 percent discount during off-peak hours. Off-peak hours are from the start of operations until 8 am, 12 pm to 4 pm, and 9pm. until closing on weekdays.

Yellow Line operations will begin with three trains, stopping at all stations, running every 25 minutes. “This will amount to around 72 trips in each direction daily, with 18 hours of service and a passenger capacity of around 2 lakh per day” said an official.

Earlier, BMRCL had planned to begin operations with seven stations at 20-minute frequency, but later decided to open all 16 stations, fearing limited stops could hurt ridership.

Yellow Line stations are: RV Road (Green Line interchange), Ragigudda, Jayadeva (Pink Line interchange), BTM Layout, Central Silk Board (Blue Line interchange), Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Huskuru Road, Biocon Hebbagodi and Delta Electronics Bommasandra.

Construction of Yellow Line began in 2017 and is completed after long delays at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore. It has three interchange stations -RV Road (Green Line), Jayadeva (Pink Line), and Central Silk Board (Blue Line).

The corridor runs through major tech hubs housing companies like Infosys, Wipro, Biocon, Delta, and Tech Mahindra, and will improve connectivity to residential areas, hospitals, educational institutions, and industrial zones on Hosur Road.
