Mungantiwar is in the fray from home turf Ballarpur constituency against Santosh Singh Rawat of Congress

The Ballarpur Assembly constituency is one of the key seats which will be watched out closely in the Assembly polls. It is located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra and was established as a separate constituency post the 2008 delimitation. It is part of the larger Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency.

The current representative for the Ballarpur seat is Mungantiwar Sudhir Sachchidanand from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Even as he lost the recent Lok Sabha polls from Chandrapur to a Congress nominee, the BJP has reposed its faith in Mungantiwar by renominating him to contest the Ballarpur Assembly seat.

A look back at past results:

BJP candidate Mungantiwar Sudhir Sachchidanand had won the 2019 Assembly polls by a margin of over 33,000 votes defeating Dr Vishwas Anandrao Zade of the Indian National Congress. Mungantiwar was polled 86,002 votes with a vote share of 42.9 per cent.

Mungantiwar had also won secured the seat in 2014 with a bigger margin. He secured 1,03,718 votes against Congress’ Mulchandani Ghanshyam Khushimal who got 60,118 votes. BSP candidate Singh Rajesh Durgasingh stood at the third spot with a total of 10,344 votes.

In the year 2009 too, Mungantiwar won from the Ballarpur Assembly constituency.

However, in the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year, Congress’s Dhanorkar Pratibha Suresh defeated Mungantiwar to win the Chandrapur Lok Sabha seat. The Congress candidate secured a total of 7,18,410 votes while Mungantiwar bagged 4,58,004 votes.

According to data from the Election Commission, the Ballarpur constituency had a total of 2,00,789 registered voters during the 2019 Assembly elections. Among them, 1,04,109 were male, 95,648 were female, and one voter identified as third gender.

Polling and counting date:

The Ballarpur constituency will vote on November 20 along with all the other 287 constituencies of the state. The counting of votes will take place three days later on November 23.
