Apple Inc has started to train thousands of workers at its Tamil Nadu factory to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max as close to the global debut as possible, Bloomberg News reported on August 20 citing sources.

Apple’s drift away from China and dash for India may unleash over 600,000 jobs through the iPhone maker’s local ecosystem, the Economic Times reported on August 27.

According to the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is likely to add around 200,000 direct jobs by the end of the current financial year, with women making up over 70 percent of the workforce.

Citing government projections, the ET report said every direct job creates at least three indirect jobs, which could translate to 500,000 to 600,000 jobs overall.

Apple Inc has begun training thousands of workers at its Tamil Nadu factory to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max versions as close to the global debut as possible, Bloomberg News reported.

In July, Moneycontrol had exclusively reported citing sources that Apple Inc had plans to assemble the top-of-the-line Pro and Pro Max models of the upcoming iPhone 16 series in India for the first time through its partner Foxconn Technology Group.

Foxconn's Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu will soon start the new product introduction (NPI) process for the Pro models of iPhone 16, and enter the mass production stage.

Apple has officially sent out invites for the launch of iPhone 16 series. The invite comes with the tagline 'It's Glowtime'. The special Apple event will be held on September 9 and the company is expected to unveil four models of iPhone 16.
