After December 14, updates will incur a fee of Rs 50 per request at Aadhaar centers.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar updates to December 14. This initiative allows individuals to update their Aadhaar details, such as name, address, or date of birth, online and at no cost. The process is simple and can be completed from the comfort of your home.

UIDAI recommends updating Aadhaar details if it has been over 10 years since the last update. Keeping Aadhaar information updated ensures that your records are current, facilitates seamless access to government and private services, and improves authentication success rates for Aadhaar-based transactions.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to update your Aadhaar details before the deadline:

>> To update your Aadhaar, visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

>> Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section, select ‘Update Your Aadhaar,’ and then choose ‘Update Aadhaar Details (Online)’ followed by ‘Document Update.’

>> Enter your Aadhaar number, fill in the Captcha, and request an OTP.

>> After entering the OTP sent to your registered mobile number, select the details you wish to update, upload supporting documents, and submit the request.

>> Remember to save your Update Request Number (URN) to track the progress.

Initially, the free update deadline was set for June 14, but was later extended to September 14, and now to December 14. After this date, updates will incur a fee of Rs 50 per request at Aadhaar centers. While updating your Aadhaar is not mandatory, it is highly recommended to ensure accurate authentication, prevent fake identities, and simplify access to services.

Aadhaar is a crucial identification document for Indian citizens, offering reliability, legal compliance, and ease of use. Those without proof of address can use an Address Validation Letter to complete the update.
