Acne, that familiar visible bump, involves a persistent throbbing beneath the skin, repeated itchiness, and a constant reminder of its presence every time you look into the mirror. That’s not all, its impact reaches beyond physical discomfort and causes significant emotional distress. The troublesome blemishes that crop up at the most inconvenient times may sometimes need professional attention. However, many can be reduced with simple yet effective home remedies.

The symptoms of acne are more than just visible spots; they’re a reflection of deeper issues. Beyond the surface, acne can cause discomfort, from tender nodules to unsightly whiteheads and blackheads. The problem extends beyond aesthetics, often leading to soreness, itchiness, and at times, painful inflammation.

Causes of acne: Understanding the root cause of acne helps to unlock the mystery behind its persistent skin issues. Factors such as hormonal fluctuations, excess oil production, bacteria, and even genetics play a vital role in the development of acne. Alongside, lifestyle choices, stress levels, and dietary habits can also contribute significantly.

Prevention and home remedies: There are some home remedies that can help manage acne. Always perform a patch test before using these remedies.

Dry mango powder: Aamchur possesses astringent properties due to its high vitamin C content. Its application aids in drying out acne and regulating excess oil production on the skin. Additionally, vitamin C contributes to collagen production, promoting skin repair and renewal. Mix rose water with aamchur powder and apply the paste on the affected area. Leave it for 20 minutes before washing.

Saliva: Surprisingly, saliva contains enzymes such as lysozyme and lactoferrin, which have antimicrobial properties. When applied to affected areas, saliva may help in combating acne-causing bacteria. However, caution is advised due to potential oral bacteria transfer and the varying efficacy among individuals.

Tea tree oil: Widely recognised for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, tea tree oil effectively reduces acne. It also helps reduce inflammation and soothe irritated skin.

Honey and tulsi: The antimicrobial properties of honey, combined with the soothing attributes of Tulsi (holy basil), create a potent natural remedy for acne. Honey's ability to inhibit bacterial growth, paired with Tulsi's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, helps reduce skin irritation and fight acne-causing bacteria.

Aloe vera: Renowned for its cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera possesses polysaccharides that heal wounds and fights inflammation associated with acne. Moreover, its mild astringent properties reduce excess oil and calm redness.

Hydration: Adequate hydration supports your skin health by maintaining optimal moisture levels and facilitating the elimination of toxins through urine and sweat. Proper hydration helps to maintain skin elasticity and suppleness, thus minimising acne severity.

Neem: Rich in compounds like nimbin and nimbidin, neem has potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties. It combats acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and soothe irritated skin.

However, for persistent or severe acne, always consult a dermatologist.
