We are back for Ireland's reply. If they chase 344 runs down, it will be a record chase on this venue. South African players then stride out and take the field. Followed by Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie who walk out to open for Ireland. Lungi Ngidi to start with the new ball.
... The Run Chase ...
Ireland's bowling unit put in a collective effort, with four bowlers chipping in with a wicket each to keep South Africa's momentum in check at various stages. Although, it wasn't enough to put a half on the run rate of Proteas. Now though with a daunting target of 344 ahead, Ireland will need a strong start from their top order to set the tone. The likes of Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie will be key in providing a solid foundation. They do have the quality, but need to be smart in their approach. Do join us shortly for the second essay to find out how things pan out.
Kyle Verreynne is in for a quick word. He reflected on the team's recent form, emphasizing how the tough series against Afghanistan pushed them to reform their approach as a batting unit. He mentioned that the wicket played a bit slower, which led them to focus on using the square boundaries effectively with flicks and punches. He stressed the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and focusing on securing the win. With 343 on the board, he believes it's a strong total and that the team’s goal is to finish the game with a convincing margin.
The real game-changer, though, was Tristan Stubbs. Having shown promise in the first ODI, he elevated his performance with a sensational unbeaten 112 off 81 balls, his first ODI ton. He received strong support from Wiaan Mulder, who chipped in with 43 valuable runs in the death overs. South Africa scored 61 runs in the final 5 overs. Now, South Africa head into the break with a commanding total, leaving Ireland with a steep chase ahead.
After electing to bat first, South Africa got off to a strong start with Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma looking solid against the new ball. The duo built a steady platform, but just as things were shaping up, Bavuma had to retire hurt due to an injury. Ireland seized the opportunity when Campher removed Rickelton, bringing them back into the contest. However, that glimmer of hope quickly dimmed when Rassie van der Dussen and Kyle Verreynne combined for a crucial partnership of 58 runs. Verreynne, impressing in his return to the side, notched up a half-century, though van der Dussen couldn’t capitalize on his start.
Hats off to Tristan Stubbs, what a sensational knock from the youngster. The 24-year old lad is making a loud announcement in the 50-over format. South Africa have posted a huge target in this contest, and would be confident heading back into the break. Ireland just found it a bit difficult to create wicket-taking opportuinities in the middle phase, which might've taken the game away from them. This wicket though is very batting-friendly. Ireland would still believe they can pull a rabbit out of the hat here.

Adds that the ball did not nip around much in the second innings, although they were under some pressure as they were chasing.
Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa is in for a chat. He starts by saying that they will bat first. It looks like a good wicket, a bit on the dry side. Adds that it could be a bit slow during the day, but aims to put a solid total on the scoreboard. Mentions that at the night the ball a got quicker as well, which turned out to be challenging for the Irish batters. Informs that these conditions, with some extra pace assisted the bowlers which is really well. States that Tony de Zorzi has been rested. Kyle Verreynne comes in for him.

Ireland, however, will be determined to bounce back! After a heavy defeat in the first T20I, they responded well to level that series, and they’ll need a similar fight if they want to stay alive in this one. Though it’s a different format, they'll have to bring their very best to stand a chance. Capitalizing on every opportunity, which they missed in the opening ODI, will be crucial. Can they deliver a stronger performance and level the series? Stay tuned as the toss is just around the corner.
It is now time for the second ODI between Ireland and South Africa. South Africa roared back in dominant fashion after their T20I loss, crushing the hosts in the first ODI with a superb knock from Ryan Rickleton and a brilliant spell from Lizaad Williams. Now, with the series on the line, Bavuma's side will be eager to replicate their impressive performance and secure the win in this second ODI and take an unassailable lead.
... MATCH DAY ...
Cricketing action across the globe continues as Ireland and South Africa battle it out in the UAE in a three-match ODI series and it is time for the 2nd ODI to get underway. It has been an up-and-down series so far with the two-match T20I series ending in a 1-1 draw and now the Proteas have taken a 1-0 lead in the ODI series with a thumping win in the first game. Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, which isn't one of the venues for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup that is also going on in the UAE, will play host to the crucial 2nd ODI and both teams will be looking for a win. Ireland did fight back in the T20I series but their batting completely collapsed while chasing 272 runs as they got bundled out for just 132 runs and only three managed to get into the 20s as well. Skipper, Paul Stirling was the first one to fall cheaply and then once the middle order was exposed, batters kept coming and going back to the hut pretty routinely. The bowling was decent with Mark Adair leading the pack with a four-fer and Craig Young picked up 3 wickets too. The pacer remained on top throughout the game but the Irish spinners did go for some extra runs, especially Gavin Hoey and they would want to tweak the bowling a bit. On the other hand, South Africa also faced difficulty with the bat but Ryan Rickelton with a knock of 91 and Tristan Stubbs with a knock of 79, made sure that they got to a solid total. The likes of Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen will be itching to make amends with the bat as the Proteas look to seal the series with a game remaining. With the ball, it was Lizaad Williams who led the pack with a solid four-wicket haul and then the rest of the bowlers chipped in nicely as well. Only Lungi Ngidi was a bit on the expensive side but he too picked up a couple of wickets. All in all, an all-round display from the Proteas but they have been highly inconsistent throughout this Asian tour and would desperately want to string two solid performances together. Will Ireland be able to level up the series? Or will South Africa run away with another win? Only time will tell.
