And that’s a wrap! Not the most dominant of wins for England Women, as Bangladesh Women did manage to test them at different stages. But that’s what quality sides do, they hold their nerve, seize the key moments, and eventually find a way to cross the line. Bangladesh Women simply did not have enough runs on the board and will no doubt reflect on the errors they made in this game as they look to improve in their next fixture. The action continues in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, as we have another exciting game lined up. Australia Women will take on Pakistan Women in Colombo, on Wednesday, 8th of October, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 3 pm IST (9.30 am GMT). Be sure to join us for all the early build-up and toss action. Until the players take the field again, goodbye from all of us, and cheers!

The victorious captain of England Women, NAT SCIVER-BRUNT, cannot hide her smile after a hard-fought victory. She says that they are happy to be on the winning side. Adds that Capsey bowled well and got crucial wickets for them. She says that they lost some runs in the death overs and they would look to improve on that. She ends by saying that they have a balanced side and Charlie Dean batting so well in the high pressure situation was excellent. Ends by saying that Heather Knight is excellent and she reads the game really well.

The captain of Bangladesh Women, NIGAR SULTANA JOTY, reflects on the defeat. She says that it was an incredible game. She says that they lost early wickets and that is what cost them and they fell short of 20-30 runs. She adds that Rabeya Khan batted well but they failed to capitalise in the middle overs. She ends by saying that they failed to bowl in the right areas and they failed to break their last partnership.

England's HEATHER KNIGHT is unarguably the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her unbeaten, match-winning 79. She says that it was a great game and Bangladesh bowlers were excellent. Adds that the pitch was a bit tricky and that made the batting difficult but it got easier as she kept on batting for long. She says that Marufa is an excellent talent and she gets a late swing, which is rare. She is happy that she got a couple of reprieves. She ends by saying that Alice Capsey did well and Charlie Dean was excellent with the bat towards the end and she is happy to be on the winning side.

... THE PRESENTATION ...

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh Women were bundled out for 178 in 49.4 overs after a rather challenging outing with the bat. Despite a composed maiden ODI fifty from Sobhana Mostary and a spirited late flourish from Rabeya Khan, the total remained below par. England’s bowlers were exceptional in their discipline and consistency. Sophie Ecclestone (3/24), Linsey Smith (2/33), Charlie Dean (2/28), and Alice Capsey (2/31) all chipped in with crucial breakthroughs to ensure Bangladesh never quite found the momentum they needed.

Full credit to the Bangladeshi spinners, who turned what looked like a straightforward chase into a genuine contest. They rotated as many as eight bowlers, but it was Fahima Khatun who truly applied the squeeze, with solid support from Shanjida Akther Maghla and Shorna Akter. Earlier, Marufa Akter set the tone brilliantly by removing both English openers with a fiery new-ball spell, but her unfortunate injury after five overs forced her to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines. But apart from those moments, they failed to seize the crucial passages of play, allowing far too many easy singles that kept the scoreboard moving. In a game where they were already short of runs, that lack of sustained pressure proved costly.

The two veterans of the English side, Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt, steadied the ship for a while, but Sciver-Brunt departed after a well-made 32. Knight, however, rode her luck, surviving a few close calls that went her way, and made sure to capitalise, punishing Bangladesh for those missed chances. With Sophia Dunkley, Emma Lamb, and Alice Capsey all falling in quick succession, the responsibility to see England home rested solely on Knight’s shoulders. At 103 for 6, with a fair bit still left to chase, Charlie Dean offered the composure England desperately needed. She joined forces with Knight, and together they ensured there were no further slip-ups, guiding the innings with calm assurance. Knight scored a fantastic half century and Dean's calm 27 proved just enough for England to cross the line.

It was a modest target of 179, but as so often in white-ball cricket, early breakthroughs can completely shift the momentum, and that’s precisely what unfolded. England Women were jolted at the start, losing both openers in quick time inside the Powerplay. The Bangladeshi bowlers made excellent use of the conditions, and their spinners, in particular, tightened the screws during the middle phase, mirroring how the English attack had earlier made the Bangladeshi batters huff and puff for every run.

What could have been a straightforward chase for England Women was turned into a real contest by Nigar Sultana Joty and her spirited side, who fought valiantly till the end. Yet, the task always looked like a mountain too steep to scale. But they did make England dig deep and also frustrated their batters consistently. With this win, though, England Women climb to the top of the table with two wins in two games.

Time is on England’s side. With only 62 runs required from 108 balls, a single steady partnership would see them comfortably through. However, Bangladesh cannot afford any bowler to have an off day from this point onward. They will have to pick all four remaining wickets to create history in Guwahati. For that, Heather Knight's scalp is the most crucial one. She has been a bit lucky tonight and is looking well-settled now. Nahida Akter (6-1-20-0) is back on. She replaces Shorna Akter.

Another big wicket for Bangladesh Women! On a delivery pitched on a good length outside off, Emma Lamb steps forward and attempts to loft it, but only manages to get the toe end of her bat on it. The ball carries towards mid on, where Nahida Akter completes a tumbling catch. Okay, drama once again as Lamb is requested to stay on the ground. The on-field umpire refers the decision to the third umpire, likely to confirm whether Nahida maintained control while getting up. After reviewing multiple angles, the third umpire confirms that her fingers were securely beneath the ball when she completed the catch. The big screen flashes OUT! No bat is involved on UltraEdge and the Ball Tracking shows the ball is projected to clip the leg stump on the umpire's call. 16.5Length ball, around off, punched to extra cover.

Oh, dear! Marufa Akter has gone off the field and is in the Bangladeshi dugout. Seems to be an issue with her left toe. She has been spot on with her bowling this evening and Bangladesh Women will hope that it is not remotely serious.

14.5Length ball around off, steered off the back foot to point.

14.4Around off, punched off the front foot.

14.3A fantastic catch from Shorna Akter! Or is it? The onfield umpire wants to have a check for a fair catch. The first angle is a bit blurry and is not that conclusive. The other wider angle comes up, but it is still unclear. Despite checking several replays from other angles, the third umpire says due to inconclusive evidence, the onfield decision to be reversed. Heather Knight had already started to walk off and Sophia Dunkley was all prepped up to walk to the crease, but Knight seems to be on a lucky streak tonight. Coming to the delivery, this is floated full and outside off. Heather Knight is forced to reach at it and ends up chipping it to the right of cover where Shorna Akter tries to scoop the in-dipping ball, diving to her right. She tries to get her fingers under the ball, but due to unclear evidence, it is given NOT OUT! Bangladesh Women are surely and evidently not happy and one can clearly see the contrast of emotions in both dressing rooms.

14.2Flighted leg break, pushed back to the bowler.

14.1Goodness me! How has that missed the stumps? A leg break, with a little bit of grip and turn from middle. Heather Knight plays for the initial line and is beaten on the outside edge. The ball passes scarily close to the sticks.

DRINKS BREAK. After being reduced to 29/2, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, two of the most seasoned campaigners for England, have steadied the ship nicely. They have added 35 runs together and, more importantly, the strike rotation has been consistent. Credit should be given where it is due, though. That initial burst from Marufa Akter really had the English women on their toes. But this is the phase where they need to dominate, knowing how deep England can bat. They need wickets, and need it right now, that too, in clusters to make the game more interesting. England Women need 115 runs from 36 overs. Fahima Khatun to continue. Went for 3 in her first over.

13.6Flatter and going on the leg stump, Nat Sciver-Brunt weighs back and defends.

13.5Fuller ball and this is blocked by Sciver-Brunt.

13.4Floated full and outside off, pushed firmly to cover.

13.3Good work in the deep! Full and sliding down leg. Nat Sciver-Brunt sweeps it through backward square leg and calls for two straightaway. Sharmin Akhter from deep square leg runs to her right and dives to intercept the ball, keeping the batters down to two.

13.2Flighted delivery, full and on off. Nat Sciver-Brunt respects it by blocking it straight.

13.1Length, outside off, punched off the back foot to extra cover.

Nahida Akter is back on. 3-1-14-0 so far for her.

12.5Straighter and fuller, on middle. Knight defends off the front foot.

12.4Fuller delivery, on leg, NSB clips it between mid on and mid-wicket for a single.

12.2Tossed up, on middle and full. Heather Knight leans forward to block, but gets an inside edge and the ball rolls to backward square leg for a single.

12.1Leg break, on a length, on middle and leg. Nat Sciver-Brunt goes deep inside the crease and pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

After 12 overs, England Women are 59/2. Bangladesh Women were 50/2 at the same stage. A change in bowling as well. Fahima Khatun is introduced into the attack. She replaces Rabeya Khan.

11.6Drifts in with the arm, on a length, on off. Nat Sciver-Brunt rocks back and punches it down to long off for one more.

11.5Slows it up, on a length around off. Nat Sciver-Brunt hangs back and taps it gently to the off side, beside the strip.

England Women's 55/2 meets Bangladesh Women's 45/2 after 11 overs.

10.5Conventional leg break, around off, eased into the off side.

10.4Huge turn into the batter, on middle. Nat Sciver-Brunt bunts it back to the bowler.

10.3Length, around off, knocked down to long off for a single.

10.2Another one on a short length, drifting in. Nat Sciver-Brunt pulls it off the back foot through mid-wicket for a single. 50 UP FOR ENGLAND WOMEN!

10.1FOUR! Gracefully played! Dropped short by Khan, around off, spinning away. Nat Sciver-Brunt hangs deep in the crease nad punches it solidly through cover for a boundary.

End of Powerplay! Bangladesh Women will now be allowed to station four fielders outside the 25-yard circle for the rest of the innings.

9.6Goes fuller, on leg, Heather Knight flicks it to the mid-wicket fielder.

9.5Too full, on leg, Nat Sciver-Brunt shuffles across and knocks it down the ground for a single.

9.4Flatter, on off, Nat Sciver-Brunt leans on and blocks it back to the bowler.

9.3Keeps it full again, on middle and leg, Heather Knight paddles it to short fine leg for a single.

9.2Flatter, on middle and leg, Heather Knight flicks it to mid-wicket.

9.1Much fuller, on off, Heather Knight pushes it to the cover fielder.

8.5FOUR! A counterpunch from Nat Sciver-Brunt! Another full toss, on leg, Nat Sciver-Brunt uses the pace of the ball and flicks it through backward square leg for yet another boundary.

8.4FOUR! Races away! A genuine gift from Akter. A low full toss, just outside off, Nat Sciver-Brunt picks it well and drills it through the gap between cover and mid off for a boundary.

8.3On a length, sliding down leg, Nat Sciver-Brunt looks to flick it but wears it on her pads. The ball rolls towards the left of the keeper.

8.1FOUR! That's a brilliant shot! On a length, just outside off, Nat Sciver-Brunt leans on and cracks a drive through extra covers for a boundary.

7.6Just a single from the over! Much fuller, on off, Heather Knight pushes it to the mid off fielder.

7.5Too full, on leg, Heather Knight flicks it to mid on.

7.4Keeps it on off, Heather Knight lunges and blocks it back to the bowler.

7.1Too full, on middle and leg, Nat Sciver-Brunt knocks it down the ground for one.

6.6Play and a miss! On a length, outside off, shaping away a shade. Heather Knight has a waft at it but misses. An appeal for caught behind, but the umpire is unmoved! A successful over for Bangladesh Women!

6.5A bit of bounce and height saves Knight! Huge relief for the former English skipper! On a length, on middle and leg, Heather Knight takes a step forward and looks to block it but misses as the ball hits her pads due to the massive reverse swing. A loud appeal again for LBW and the finger goes up. Heather Knight refers straightaway. UltraEdge shows a flat line and Ball Tracking shows that it was just missing the top of the leg stump. A good review from Heather Knight, but this is some bowling display from the Bangladesh Women side!

6.4Much fuller, outside off, Nat Sciver-Brunt cuts it through backward point for a single. Good fielding in the deep.

6.3Length again, with a hint of inward movement. Nat Sciver-Brunt leans on and blocks it to mid off.

6.2On a length, on middle, Nat Sciver-Brunt blocks it back to the bowler.

England Women will need to build a gritty stand here. Bangladesh Women have been brilliant with the ball so far!

6.1OUT! LBW! Excellent review from Bangladesh Women! On a length, just outside off, Tammy Beaumont moves forward and looks to block it but misses and gets hit flush on her front pad. A loud appeal for LBW, but the umpire is unmoved. Marufa Akter has a chat with the keeper and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty, and she decides to go upstairs. UltraEdge shows a flat line and Ball Tracking shows three reds. The decision is overturned to OUT. Brilliant display of bowling from Marufa Akter so far as she has snapped up the wickets of both English openers inside the Powerplay! Tammy Beaumont departs for 13 (17) and England Women are 29/2 after 6.1 overs, needing 150 runs to win. In fact, Nasser Hussain comments on air that this inswinging delivery has long been a known huge vulnerability for Tammy Beaumont, throughout her career. It was a brilliantly executed ball from Akter.

6.1Another wide! Three wides in a row. Another one down leg, Tammy Beaumont leaves it alone.

2.1DECISION OVERTURNED! Marufa Akter misses on her second wicket! On a length, curving back in from outside off, Heather Knight looks to block it but misses as she plays over the line and the ball flirts past the inside edge and carries towards Nigar Sultana Joty, who takes a simple catch behind the stumps. The finger goes up for a caught behind appeal! Heather Knight goes upstairs straightaway. UltraEdge shows that it had hit the flap of the front pad first and not brushed the inside edge. The third umpire is still reviewing a potential inside edge as the bat and pad collide with the ball in the vicinity of both. It appears to be pad first, and there is no conclusive evidence that the ball brushed the inside edge on its way to the keeper. After careful examination, the third umpire requests the onfield umpire to overturn the decision, and the call is confirmed as NOT OUT. But in all fairness, that was a pretty tricky one even for the third umpire to provide a clear verdict.

1.6A maiden from Nahida Akter! Too full, on middle, Tammy Beaumont cuts it to backward point. It should have been a wicket maiden though!

1.5Short, on off, Tammy Beaumont eases it to the fielder at point.

1.2DROPPED! Marufa, who bowled an excellent first over, is the guilty party! Hands on heads in disbelief for Bangladesh Women! That should have been taken by all standards of cricket! Tossed up, on off, Tammy Beaumont looks to loft it but gets it off the toe end of her bat. It carries towards mid off. Marufa Akter executes the difficult part by reacting quickly and running to her right, but seemingly overruns and drops an absolute sitter. That could prove to be a massive drop for Bangladesh Women.

1.1Short, on off, Tammy Beaumont blocks it back.

Heather Knight walks in at number 3. Also, Nahida Akter will share the attack from the other end.

0.6OUT! LBW! Amy Jones departs! An early and much-needed breakthrough for Bangladesh Women. On a length, on off, shaping in very sharply. Amy Jones looks to flick it but gets beaten on the inside edge as the ball hits her pads. A loud appeal for LBW and the finger does go up this time. Amy Jones has a chat with Tammy Beaumont and decides not to refer it for a review. She makes her way back into the pavilion on just 1 off 3. England Women are 6/1 after 1 over, needing 173 runs to win. The Ball Tracking projection is displayed shortly after, revealing that the delivery would have clipped the leg stump on the umpire’s call. So even if Jones had opted for a review, the decision would not have gone in her favor.

0.5On a length, on leg, Tammy Beaumont helps it to short fine leg for a single.

0.4On a length, on off, Amy Jones punches it to cover for one.

0.4Wide! Sways it down the leg side, Amy Jones looks to flick it but misses.

0.3Oh! On a length, on off, shaping in. Amy Jones looks to flick it but wears it on her pads. An appeal but turned down. There seemed to be an inside edge. Bangladesh Women don't refer it upstairs. The Ball Tracking later shows that the ball is projected to smash into the leg stump with three reds, but the inside edge has possibly saved Jones here.

0.2Too full, on middle, with a hint of inward movement. Tammy Beaumont flicks it to mid-wicket for a quick single. She gets off the mark.

0.2Wide! Full, down leg, Tammy Beaumont looks to flick it but misses.
