Absolute Sports, the subsidiary of Nazara Technologies which operates sports media brand Sportskeeda, has signed definitive agreements to acquire two online wrestling content destinations, TJRWrestling.net and ITRWrestling.com, for Rs 10.5 crore ($1.25 million) in an all-cash deal, the company said on May 7.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen Absolute Sports' presence in the combat sports publishing industry. Sportskeeda already offers content related to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) on its website.
"ITRWrestling and TJRwrestling are two of the most respected voices in the global wrestling community. This acquisition aligns perfectly with our vision to be the leading go-to destination for wrestling content worldwide," Absolute Sports CEO Ajay Pratap Singh said.
The move will also expand the company's footprint in the United States, which has the world's largest pro-wrestling fanbase.
This acquisition also reinforces Absolute Sports’ dedication to expanding its footprint in the fast-growing US media market through a targeted and impactful M&A strategy, Singh said.
Over the past couple of years, Absolute Sports has made several acquisitions in the region. These include the sports media firm Pro Football Network for Rs 16 crore ($1.82 million) in March 2023, entertainment content destination SoapCentral for Rs 11.6 crore ($1.4 million) in June 2024 and gaming content platform Deltia's Gaming for Rs 7.5 crore ($900,000) in August.
Through this transaction, Sportskeeda Inc is purchasing the intellectual property rights of these assets including brand, domain, content, and social media accounts from Titan Insider Digital.
TJRWrestling and ITRWrestling were established in 2009 and 2020, respectively. TJRWrestling publishes wrestling PayPer-Views (PPV) Reviews and television reviews, while ITRWrestling publishes content on wrestling news from WWE, AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and IMPACT.
Together, they attract 1.7 million monthly active users and generate 4.6 million monthly pageviews, predominantly from North America. They generated a combined revenue of about Rs 6.1 crore ($722,000) in 2024.
The integration of these platforms will also create deeper engagement opportunities for fans and advertisers across digital formats, the company said.
The United States is the biggest market for the Sportskeeda parent, accounting for about 69.1 percent of the company's revenues in FY24. Absolute Sports' revenue from the region was at Rs 135.4 crore for FY24, as compared to the overall revenues of Rs 196 crore.
