If you are looking for that one element that will instantly perk up your living room – it has to be rugs. They are not only easy to maintain but also work as an ideal item that adds a pop of color. While some rugs some might not fit your budget but why give up so easily when you can create one. Customizing a rug is not only easy but is light on your pocket as well. You get to design a rug that suits your taste without actually having to spend a lot of money. While you won’t be needing a huge bank balance to create this, you will require some patience, so follow these tips and you will end up having an amazing rug that is modern.
Materials needed
A remnant rug (ideal size 5×7 m but it could vary depending on your room) Paper & cardboard Scissors Fabric paints (2 to 3 shades) Paint brush (foam) Chalk/pen/marker Fabric protector
Method
Step 1
Start out by deciding on a particular pattern. Use one that is more visually attractive. Once you have zeroed in on the pattern, trace it out on a piece of paper and cut it out using scissors. Remember to choose large patterns. Now use the paper as a guide and cut out cardboard in the same shape and glue them together.
Step 2
Now using the stencil as a guide draw the designs on the rug using either chalk/pen or a marker. Trace it as perfectly as you can and repeat the process until you have covered the entire rug.
Step 3
Now line your work area with either newspaper of plastic and start filling the insides of the pattern. Spread the fabric color using a foam brush instead of a normal paint brush. The paint shade might turn out to be darker so test it to see if it meets your expectations. Once the entire rug in painted, set it aside to dry.
Step 4
To give your rug some definition, line the pattern with a lighter shade of paint. Set the rug aside to dry. Once dried, spray some fabric protector – it will ensure your paint lasts for long.
Now place the rug either in the living room or dining room and let it do all the talking for you!
