Ordering a PVC Aadhaar card should be easy. It costs Rs 75, takes a few minutes, and is supposed to be fully online. Yet most people stall halfway through, usually at the same point. They assume the mobile number used for the order must be linked to the Aadhaar they’re ordering.
That assumption is what trips people up.
Parents don’t remember which number is linked. Children don’t have numbers at all. Old numbers are switched off. And suddenly a simple task feels like it needs planning, coordination, and maybe even a visit to an Aadhaar centre.
The reality is far less complicated. The UIDAI system doesn’t care whose phone number you use to place the order. It just needs a phone number that works.
Once you understand that, ordering PVC Aadhaar cards for your entire family becomes a calm, one-sitting job instead of a postponed chore.
How the mobile number rule actually works
When you order a PVC Aadhaar card online, the mobile number is used only to send an OTP and confirm payment. It is not checked against the Aadhaar database. It is not being matched to the person whose card you’re ordering.
Think of your phone number as a door key, not an identity check.
So yes, you can sit down with one phone and place separate orders for your spouse, children, parents, and even grandparents, as long as you have their Aadhaar details handy.
What you should have ready before you start
This process doesn’t fix anything. It only prints what already exists in the Aadhaar system. So before you begin, make sure the basics are correct.
You’ll need the Aadhaar number, Virtual ID, or Enrolment ID for each family member. Whatever name and address are already in the database will appear on the PVC card, spelling mistakes and all.
You’ll also need one phone that can receive OTPs and make digital payments. That’s it. No separate numbers. No permissions from each family member.
How to place the order without getting stuck
Go to the UIDAI website and select the option to order a PVC Aadhaar card. Enter your Aadhaar number and login. After that, choose the option ‘order a PVC Aadhaar card’, then select others and enter the Aadhaar number or Virtual ID of the person you are ordering for.
At the authentication stage, choose the option to receive the OTP on a non-registered mobile number. This is where many people hesitate or back out, assuming it won’t work. It does.
Enter your phone number, receive the OTP, and complete the verification. The OTP is only confirming that someone is placing the order. It is not verifying ownership of the Aadhaar.
Once verified, the system shows you the Aadhaar details and delivery address. Pause here. This is your last chance to spot an outdated address, because you won’t be able to edit it later.
Proceed to payment. The fee is Rs 75, including GST and speed post delivery. After payment, you’ll receive a Service Request Number. Save it somewhere sensible.
Then repeat the same steps for the next family member. You can use the same phone number again and again without any issue.
Keeping track when you’ve ordered for more than one person
Each PVC Aadhaar card generates its own Service Request Number. If you’ve ordered cards for several people, they may not arrive together. That’s normal.
Use the SRN to track each order individually. Delivery usually takes around a week, sometimes a little longer depending on location.
Things people usually figure out only after ordering
This process doesn’t update Aadhaar details. If your parent’s address is old or your child’s name is misspelt, fix that first and order the PVC card only after the update reflects in the system.
For young children, the PVC Aadhaar may show limited biometric information. That’s not a printing issue. It simply mirrors what UIDAI has on record.
There’s no bulk or family checkout option. Each Aadhaar card needs its own order and its own Rs 75 payment, even if everything is done from the same phone in one sitting.
Who this method really helps
This works best in families where one person ends up handling digital tasks for everyone else. It’s useful if your parents don’t use smartphones, your children don’t have linked numbers, or you just want to get everything done without coordinating across multiple devices.
Once you stop treating the mobile number like a gatekeeper, the whole thing becomes refreshingly boring. One phone, a few Aadhaar numbers, and a bit of patience is all it actually takes.
