In the highly volatile session on October 4, the Indian equity markets ended on a negative note, extending losing streak on the fourth straight session amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
At close, the Sensex was down 808.65 points or 0.98 percent at 81,688.45, and the Nifty was down 200.30 points or 0.79 percent at 25,049.80.

Asian markets mostly fell on Tuesday, with investors watching August pay and spending data out from Japan and as mainland Chinese markets return to trade.

Wall Street's three major indexes closed down around 1 percent on Monday while Treasury yields rose, as traders tamped down bets for Federal Reserve interest-rate easing and worried about the Middle East conflict's impact on oil prices.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 398.51 points, or 0.94 percent, to 41,954.24, the S&P 500 lost 55.13 points, or 0.96 percent, to 5,695.94 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 213.94 points, or 1.18 percent, to 17,923.90.

The US 10-year Treasury yield shed 44 bps at 4 percent and the US 2-year bond yield fell 115 bps to 3.94 percent, in the early trade on Tuesday.

The US dollar is trading near a seven-week high as investors reassessed their positions after last week's strong US jobs data and as fears that Middle East tensions would spill into a wider conflict drove bids for safe havens.
