First Tick: Top 10 data points from overnight markets

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices are expected to open flat on June 7 following indication from GIFT Nifty, which is trading flat at 22,910.

Indian stock markets ended positively for the second consecutive session on news of the BJP-led NDA securing a third consecutive term. Global stocks rose on expectations of a US rate cut and sustained growth in artificial intelligence.

At closing, Sensex surged by 0.93 percent or 692.27 points, reaching 75,074.51, while the Nifty index closed at 22,821.40, up by 0.89 percent or 201 points. In broader indices, BSE MidCap rose by 2.3 percent, and BSE SmallCap saw a jump of 3.06 percent.

GIFT Nifty (Flat)

The GIFT Nifty is trading 8 points lower on June 7, compared to the Nifty 50 close, indicating a flat start for the day. Nifty futures were trading at 22,910 at 07:00 am IST.

Asian Equities (Mixed)

Asian markets were trading mixed on Friday as investors awaited key economic data from China and Japan, with markets also assessing the European Central Bank’s rate cut.

US Equities (Flat)

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite finished a shade lower on Thursday ahead of a key labor market report, retreating from record highs reached in the previous session. The Dow was slightly higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 78.84 points, or 0.20%, to 38,886.17, the S&P 500 lost 1.07 points, or 0.02%, to 5,352.96 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 14.78 points, or 0.09%, to 17,173.12.

US Bond Yield (Gains)

The US 10-year Treasury yields were trading higher by 14 basis points to 4.29 percent, while US 2 year bond yield was up 9 basis points at 4.72 percent, from their previous close.

Dollar Index (Flat)

The dollar hovered close to an eight-week low on Friday, ahead of a crucial U.S. jobs report that should provide clues on the timing of Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.
