US stocks: Indexes down more than 2%

US stocks extended losses in late trading on Wednesday, with all three major indexes down more than 2%. Financials and materials companies led the decline.

US stocks extended losses in late trading on Wednesday, with all three major indexes down more than 2%. Financials and materials companies led the decline.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 254.37 points, or 2.02%, at 12,315.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 27.40 points, or 2.04%, at 1,317.80. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 58.52 points, or 2.06%, at 2,776.78.
