GAIL Gas, a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India), expanded its presence to 16 geographical areas on a standalone basis and an additional nine GAs through joint ventures in the financial year 2022-23, Chairman Sandeep Kumar Gupta said. He added that the city gas distribution company now has a significant footprint in 25 geographical areas across 50 districts and 14 states.
GAIL Gas said it has obtained Proprietary (CGD) membership of IGX to provide the best price solution in a dynamic environment and participated in 3 HPHT ceiling price gas bidding, resulting in a saving of about Rs 9 crore in FY2022-23.
Gupta said city gas distribution (CGD) is pivotal in transforming the nation's energy landscape and promoting sustainable development.
“This sector is primarily responsible for the distribution of natural gas to urban and semi-urban areas, including households, industries, commercial establishments and vehicles,” he added.
GAIL Gas added 102 new CNG (compressed natural gas) stations during the year, taking the total to 352 on a standalone basis across all the authorized GAs.
In the PNG or piped natural gas (Domestic) business, the company has added more than 40,000 domestic customers to its billing network.
“This has resulted in better monetisation of already built infrastructure. Consumer base with gas connections has crossed the 1,40,000 mark in the residential sector giving a major boost to PNG adoption,” said Gupta.
