K'taka Assembly passes Bill to hike salary of MLAs by 100%

With the new hike the basic salary of the chief minister has gone up from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a bill to increase salaries of all MLAs by nearly 100 percent. The hike puts them in the bracket of some of the highest paid law makers in the country.

With the new hike the basic salary of the chief minister has gone up from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.

The salaries of ministers has increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000. The allowances of the CM and ministers have gone up from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh Rupees per month.

The hike will cost the government an additional Rs 44 crore every year. "What to do, we also need to serve people and hence state has to support us," said Karnataka Home Minister KL Gorge.
