Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto in an interview to CNBC-TV18 spoke about the company's future plans and their foray into the electric vehicle space.
He said electrification of the three-wheelers is a very meaningful area to work on but if there is an overnight shift of policy to electric 3-wheelers then it could be catastrophic for the company.
He said there is a huge opportunity in the 3-wheeler electrification. “There are over 5 million three-wheelers out in the market which could be replaced over a number of years,” he said.
The company should be able to launch electric 3-wheelers by 2020 with BS-VI also coming in.
Electrifying the existing three-wheelers would be the lowest level of technological intervention or innovation but the highest level would be creating a new brand for EV business.
