Uber looks to tie up with Railways for pick-up & drop to station

This deal could add millions of commuters who prefer inter-city travel by rail into Uber's customer base and also boost revenues for Indian Railways as they lease space inside stations for Uber kiosks and charge a commission for every Uber ride booked.

Passengers travelling by train will now be able to book an Uber to the station - or from the station - using their Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) app thanks to a deal between the cab aggregator and Indian Railways, reports The Economic Times.This deal could add millions of commuters who prefer inter-city travel by rail into Uber's customer base and also boost revenues for Indian Railways as they lease space inside stations for Uber kiosks and charge a commission for every Uber ride booked.Travellers will be able to book the Uber from the IRCTC app for mobile while they book their train journey. Uber will also help IRCTC upgrade it app.There is although no confirmation on the cities in which this service will be initiated for now.Ola has a tie-up with the Mumbai Metro to offer share rides from the station for as low as Rs 3 per KM.
