Mobile accessories maker Targus on Wednesday said it will start manufacturing laptop bags in India in the next three months, its first such facility outside China. To be set up under contract manufacturing, the facility will come up in Dehradun with a capacity of up to 2 lakh units a month. "India is the fastest growing market for us in the Asia region. While we were sourcing from China, now we are looking at manufacturing in India as part of our contribution to the Make in India initiative," Targus Asia Pacific Director (Product Marketing) Manish Aher told agency. The company has over 50 models in the Rs 1,500 to Rs 8,000 price range. He, however, did not share any investment details.
"Manufacturing in India could help the pricing as well... While we are starting with laptop bags, we could also look at sleeves for iPads (from the facility)," he said. India contributes about 22 per cent of the country's revenues from the Asia Pacific region with a growth rate of 35-36 per cent.
Targus, which sells docking stations, security and privacy screens as well, launched two new docking stations today priced at Rs 15,990 and Rs 19,999. "We have clients across sectors like banking, manufacturing, IT and R&D companies... We are seeing strong growth. The market opportunity is about 1.5 million units in India," Aher said.
