Uber, the US-based taxi-hailing app, is starting to grow in popularity among the Indian metro crowd and is giving tough competition to rivals Ola and Meru.
Although the company is known for its generous discount offers and referral programs, some users have been able to exploit these benefits by finding loopholes in Uber’s payment and registration process.
Moneycontrol came to know that the app has certain flaws, which can be exploited for free rides.
After downloading and registering with the app, it asks users to link their Paytm wallet, which should have a minimum balance of Rs 200 in order to avail a ride.
If the fare cost is more than the balance amount in the Paytm wallet i.e. a minimum of Rs 200, the wallet is not charged and the amount is reflected in Uber profile as a due amount.
Exploiting this hack is possible only once in an Android phone as the app registers the IMEI number and signing in with a different number will give an error. Thanks to this safeguard, a user cannot go on to take multiple free rides.
However, the Uber app appears to have a bug in its Windows version.
The above-mentioned hack works unlimited times in the company's Windows apps and it allows the user to sign in with a different account each time, and avail a fresh free ride.
Moneycontrol reached out to Uber for a comment but it did not receive a reply at the time of filing this report.
