BMW, the country’s second largest luxury car maker, today launched the all-new 5 Series with prices starting at Rs 49.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The all-new BMW 5 Series will compete against the Mercedes-Benz E-class, Audi A6, Volvo S90 and the Jaguar XF. BMW claims that the 5 Series is the market leader in its segment.
The car will come in four variants, three diesel and one petrol. It will be available post July 1. The new car is lighter by 70 kilograms than the outgoing model. The rear seats now have a two 10-inch entertainment display units.

This is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. BMW sold 3533 so far this year with a 8 percent growth. Presently, 8 models are made in India and a further 8 other models are fully imported into the country.

“In 2017 we will spearhead our product offensive with the 5 series. Till date more than 66,000 BMWs have been sold in India. Out of this the biggest share is enjoyed by the 5 Series with sales of more than 19,000, nearly 30 percent of total sales in India”, said Vikram Pawah, President, BMW India.
BMW has 41 sales outlets now and plans to increase this to 50 by 2018. These will come up in urban and semi urban areas. Mobile studios where new showrooms can be set up in future are also running across the country.
