  • Mirrors should not face each other as per Vastu to avoid restless energy
  • Place mirrors at 4-5 feet height and avoid reflecting the bed in bedrooms
  • Use square or rectangular mirrors; avoid placing them opposite the main door.

If you have bought a home recently or are planning to renovate your space, you should know that mirror direction and placement play an important role, as per Vastu. Mirrors are not just décor pieces, they also influence the energy of your home.

When placed incorrectly, they can create an emotional turbulence and disturb your sleep quality. However, with correct positioning, they improve health, absorb negative energy, and bring prosperity.

Why mirrors shouldn’t face each other in Vastu

Due to their reflective properties, mirrors are considered to be representations of the water element, imitating some of its properties and influencing flow and balance in a home. However, when two mirrors are placed in front of each other, they create endless reflections, causing restless, circulating energy. This may cause emotional disturbance and harbour negative energy in the room.

Even psychologically, two mirrors facing each other can cause visual clutter and make  you feel overwhelmed and restless. It can be overstimulating for the brain, causing discomfort and unease.

It’s even worse when the mirrors are placed in the bedroom, where the mind needs to be in a state of calm for a peaceful sleep at night. The endless reflections and constant motion interferes with sleep and may also cause arguments, feelings of fatigue and anxiety.

Vastu tips for best mirror placement

Mirrors should ideally be placed at a height of around 4 to 5 feet above the ground and never face each other. In the bedroom, they should be placed alongside the bed so no body part is seen in the mirror while sleeping. Try picking a square or a rectangular mirror, as they are considered auspicious. Avoid oval, round, or irregular shapes.

Mirror direction should be chosen according to what they reflect. If there’s a beautiful view in your living room, place a mirror in the opposite direction. This helps replicate the beauty of the view and attract positive energy.

Mirrors should be placed such that they reflect objects and views that are pleasant and calming. Avoid placing any mirror or shiny object in front of the main door.
