Most spiders are harmless indoors, but their presence, especially in the kitchen and garden, can be unsettling and unpleasant. Even though they play an important role in a balanced ecosystem by controlling other pests, their presence is still unwanted. Fortunately, there are a few safe ways to get rid of spiders in your home that don’t require store-bought chemical repellents.
Clean and declutter your space: You are most likely to find cobwebs hiding behind curtains or furniture. They prefer undisturbed places, which is why thorough cleaning helps. To discourage the growth of cobwebs, keep your home utterly clean and decluttered.

Seal entry points: Covering the entry points is one of the most convenient ways to prevent their presence. Look for open cracks, gaps, or even drainage holes from where they can creep in and seal them with caulking or weather stripping to stop them from making their way inside.
Eliminate food sources: Spiders won’t make their way into a home with no other pests. And the best way to do so is by ensuring proper garbage disposal, washing trash bins and stove tops, cleaning the kitchen counter, and anywhere you feel there may be food crumbs.
Use spider-repellent plants: The easiest way to get rid of these creepy crawlies is by using plants that deter them. Placing basil, lavender, and rosemary strategically can help. Their smell repels spiders and prevents them from entering the home.
Apply peppermint or eucalyptus oil: Spiders can be prevented by using strong oils like peppermint or eucalyptus. Mix 10-15 drops of one of the essential oils with water in a spray bottle and apply it to areas where they can potentially reside. This should be done regularly.

Make a cleaning spray at home: Avoid chemical sprays by making your own cleaning solution. Mix ½ cup water and ½ cup vinegar and put it in a spray bottle. Use it behind large furniture, closets, and corners to prevent cobwebs.
Use dish soap: Mixing a citrusy dish soap with water can also help. Think of lemon and lime scents. Spray the solution in areas where spiders can form webs. Use frequently as the smell doesn’t last for a long time.
Add cedar wood: Those familiar with the scent of cedar chestnut would know it is strong and capable of repelling spiders. Incorporate them into spaces like windowsills, basements, door sides, and wherever else you think spiders might reside.
