Potatoes for cleaning mirrors

While most people know shaving foams can clean mirrors as they contain surfactants, what they might not know is that a potato can also do an equally brilliant job. Pick a large potato, slice it into two, and rub it onto the mirror. Potatoes contain a chemical called oxalic acid, which helps remove dust, dirt, and grime. Allow it to settle on the mirror for two minutes. Then wipe it off with a clean, wet cloth and use a dry microfibre cloth at the end.

Lemon juice for shower heads

One of the most popular methods for cleaning shower heads is mixing one part vinegar with four parts water. This helps remove built-up limescale. However, if you do not like the strong smell of vinegar, lemon juice also works effectively. The citric acid in lemon helps break down any buildup. For this, squeeze 3–4 fresh lemons and mix the juice with an equal part of warm water. Pour this cleaning solution into a plastic bag, soak the showerhead in it, and secure it with a rubber band for about an hour. Wipe clean the shower head and then use an old toothbrush to scrub the surface to remove any debris. This will give you a clean, unclogged shower head.

Toothpaste and foil paper for taps

Metal taps can accumulate hard water stains over time that don’t go away with regular cleaning. A simple DIY hack that helps is applying a white toothpaste directly onto the surface and scrubbing it with a crumpled aluminium foil. This helps remove rust and grime. Rinse the toothpaste off and use a dry microfibre cloth for high shine.

Baking soda and vinegar for toilet

Baking soda and vinegar are known to be excellent cleaning agents. For your toilet bowls, spread some baking soda and then pour vinegar. Leave the mix for about 10 minutes and then clean the insides with a brush. Flush once you are done to see the difference.

These are some really efficient DIY hacks that are inexpensive and do not consume too much time. The results are highly satisfying, and give you a spotless, sparkling bathroom just as you’d want it.
