  • Avoid storing perfumes in bathrooms due to heat and humidity
  • Keep perfumes away from direct sunlight and artificial light
  • Store perfumes in a dry, dark place like a cupboard or drawer

There’s nothing like a good perfume to add a luxe finish to your outfit. Many of us end up spending a hefty amount on them but pay little attention to their storage. This affects the way they smell and can make them unwearable within just a few weeks of purchase. Here are three storage mistakes you should avoid to keep their scent intact until they are finished…

Avoid storing them in bathrooms

It is convenient to use bathrooms for fixing your hair and makeup and adding a little spritz right before you step out. But it’s a mistake to store your perfumes on the bathroom counter. The heat and the humidity in bathrooms oxidise the delicate ingredients and notes and make perfumes degrade faster. They affect the colour or smell in one way or another. Thus, it’s certainly not a place to trust with your expensive possessions.

Don’t keep them in direct or even artificial light

Many of us don’t think displaying our collection on a dresser or keeping our bottles exposed to direct sunlight could do any harm. But many experts say that exposure to light speeds up oxidation and affects colour and scent over time. This can make the fragrances unwearable before they are even close to finishing.

Avoid placing them near windows or in cars

Yet again, placing perfume bottles near heat and light can affect their fragrance. They won’t smell the same. Thus, avoid placing them anywhere near your windows or cars. Over time, the top notes alter, which can be quite disheartening, especially in the case of expensive purchases.

Right way to store perfumes

While you know where not to keep your fragrances, you must also know the right way to store them. Experts recommend keeping your bottles in a dry, dark area. The most ideal places are inside a cupboard, drawer, or wardrobe. This protects them from heat, light, and moisture, which can affect their composition within a short time. Treating them with just a little care goes a long way in ensuring their scent remains intact and delightful.
