Disha Patani channels Madhuri Dixit's iconic ‘Dhak Dhak’ look in a dazzling orange saree

Disha Patani dazzled on the red carpet at the 2nd edition of MAMI Select in an orange saree that reminded the internet of Madhuri Dixit’s iconic outfit from the song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga. While many praised the actress, some critics dubbed it a "watered-down rerun" of the original.

Bollywood star Disha Patani is known for her bold and striking sartorial choices. She recently attended the unveiling of the 2nd edition of MAMI Select in an ethnic ensemble that sparked both praise and criticism.

Styled by Karan Torani, Disha wore a radiant orange saree inspired by none other than Bollywood’s ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl, Madhuri Dixit. Back in the day, Madhuri grabbed eyeballs in the song for her retro full-sleeve blouse, front pallu, and low-hanging drape that flaunted her midriff. Her bold and sensuous look created quite a sensation and continues to remain iconic.

Disha’s version was a modern interpretation of the same saree. The actress donned an intricately embroidered blouse featuring a plunging neckline and long sleeves, paired with a low-pleated skirt styled with a front pallu. She completed the look with traditional earrings and a few rings. Her hair was styled in a side parting with soft waves, and her makeup was done in warm tones.

Her look instantly caught the internet’s attention, and Diet Sabya — known for acting as a fashion watchdog on Instagram — slammed the ensemble as a “watered-down rerun” of the original.

Its caption, sharing Disha’s photos in a reel comparing it with Madhuri’s, read: “Some tributes are best left in the archives. And in the milieu of Dishafication, that legendary Dhak Dhak ensemble doesn’t land — sorry. It’s a NO. Not homage, not nostalgia — just a watered-down rerun (and looks tacky on her?) with none of Madhuri’s original sensuality. Next!”

While many agreed in the comments that iconic styles shouldn’t be recreated, others felt that Disha pulled off the outfit with grace and confidence. One user replied, “I think she looks stunning.” Another wrote, “I don’t know. She did it in her style. Plus the colour and the embroidery look lovely! I like it.”

Disha’s look serves as a reminder that fashion is cyclical and tends to repeat itself every once in a while. While it may not have clicked with everyone, it definitely got people talking and brought back a wave of nostalgia.
