  • Priyanka Chopra uses facial cold plunges for skin tightening and waking up pores
  • Experts: Ice water plunges offer temporary benefits, not a skincare substitute.
  • Cold plunges may irritate or redden sensitive skin.

Priyanka Chopra is among the actresses who's ageing gracefully. Just like her poise, her skin also looks impeccable. The actor recently took to Instagram stories to share one skincare ritual that she swears by. It is the popular dipping one's face in cold water. Like Priyanka, there are many other celebrities also that practice the same ritual. Some names that pop up in one's mind are Kriti Sanon, Alia Bhatt, among others.

So, apart from the fact that it is slightly difficult to dip one's face into ice cold water, another tricky aspect is to hold one's breath while one is doing so. To make the process a lot simples, Priyanka did the facial cold plunge in a device called TheFaceTub. The latter comes with a breathing attachment and it allows one to breath comfortably while they dunk their face in the water.

In the clip that the actor had posted, she went for a round two also to wake her skin up and tighten the pores. A popular practice, it is believed that by dipping one's face in the ice cold water, it can help tighten one's pores, make one's skin tight and wake up the skin also.

Moneycontrol team spoke to Dr Veena Praveen, Head Medical Advisor (South) and consultant dermatologist at Kaya Limited, to understand more about the practice.

"Dunking your face in ice water is really popular on media right in today’s time. However, you have to be careful when you do it. It can feel nice and cool for a while, but it is not the right way to get tight skin. Those with sensitive skin or rosacea or broken capillaries might experience irritated skin or redness after splashing the cold water. If you dunk your face in ice water occasionally, it is ok, however, it should not replace the skincare routine that your dermatologist tells you to do every day," shared Dr Praveen.

Dr Praveen lists benefits of facial cold plunges

  • Ice water can bring down facial puffiness for some time by constricting blood vessels and this is the reason that people notice a fresher and tighter skin immediately after dunking the skin in ice cold water.
  • It can help calm down inflammation, and give a temporary glow to your skin.
  • It can also help reduce acne by reducing the inflamed sebaceous glands.
  • Some people also find this practice mentally exciting. However, these effects are for a small duration. For a long-term healthy skin, you need to follow a proper skincare routine including proper cleansing, moisturising, sun protection, and hydration.
