Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, was diagnosed with fourth stage of breast cancer in 2024. However, she overcame the cancer battle with lifestyle and dietary changes in 40 days reportedly.

Recently, in a video posted by Acharya Aniruddhacharya where Navjot Kaur Sidhu could be seen standing next to him with folded hands, the former shared how Navjot continues to drink and bathe with cow urine after healing from cancer. He also added that doctors had told Navjot that she would live for only 4 months when she was diagnosed with the disease. However, she battled cancer head on by following an Ayurvedic diet.

After the video got backlash for spreading misinformation, Navjot Kaur Sidhu posted a video clarifying her stance on it. She wrote, "Only Allopathic treatment by a cancer specialist will save your life. Alternative therapies like lifestyle changes, pesticide free organic foods, no grains or milk products, cow urine therapies act as supportive therapy and can never treat you. Immediate treatment by a good doctor like Dr Rupinder Batra for me is very important and the only way forward for a cancer patient. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation saved my life. Food and lifestyle changes were added to help me heal sooner and have prevented recurrence till date."

Moneycontrol team spoke to Dr Arun Kumar Giri, director of surgical oncology at Aakash Healthcare, to understand if consumption of cow urine can act as a supportive therapy to cure cancer. "There is no evidence that suggests cow urine can help treat or cure cancer. Claims which say that drinking or bathing in gomutra can help cure a person of cancer often circulate without relevant data, controlled trials or safety checks. Cancer remission is possible when patients undergo timely diagnosis, surgery if required, targeted therapy etc for treatment of the disease," he opined.

'Promoting cow urine as an aid to treat cancer is risky'

Dr Giri cautioned that promoting cow urine as an aid to treat cancer was risky. "If a patient drinks cow urine, there are chances of catching infections and toxins considering the fact that the immunity is already low because of cancer in the body. Also, such things can give them false hopes to people and delay necessary treatment. When patients delay evidence-based care, cancer can become life threatening," Dr Giri said.

'Belief or tradition alone doesn't cure cancer'

"Belief or tradition alone does not cure cancer. Science, tested medicine and continuous medical supervision are crucial for the treatment of cancer. Any such claim that says cow urine can cure cancer must be questioned, because misinformation can cost lives," Dr Giri concluded.
