Acidity is perhaps one of the most common digestive issues faced by people today, irrespective of their age and eating habits. Hypermobility or Acid reflux is a medical condition of abnormal acid reflux which afflicts the upward flow of citrus juice from the stomach to food pipe, resulting in symptoms like heartburn, bloating, sour burps and discomfort in chest area.
Occasional heartburn is common and can often be managed by making some lifestyle changes, including those around eating habits. Spicy and hot foods, too much caffeine or alcohol, smoking, late-night eating and long-term stress are some of the most common triggers. A lot of people feel the burn in the mid-to-lower chest, and it’s called heartburn.
“Many people turn to antacid for instant relief, but if those medications are used frequently — without lifestyle changes — you’re not going to solve the problem by getting rid of the acid from your stomach,” says Dr Neelam Kapoor, Consultant Nutritionist, MotherLand Care in Faridabad.
Simple home remedies to combat acid reflux can be highly effective in balancing the stomach’s pH levels, improving digestion and calming an irritated gut lining. “A combination of natural remedies along with consciously choosing to eat food that does not lead to acidity will keep in check acidity,” she shares. The earlier we find the triggers and make small, daily changes can set us on a path to maintaining lifelong digestive health.

Bananas and apples are both alkaline in nature which naturally help to neutralise excess stomach acid. They’re also high in fibre which keeps things moving through the intestines to reduce reflux and indigestion.
Coconut water helps to reduce heat in the stomach which restore PH balance. It also supports the body's ability to produce protective mucus on the lining of the stomach.
Staying upright for at least 30–40 minutes after meals, keeps the acid from getting back into the food pipe and thus minimizing discomfort due to heartburn.
Stress increases acid production. Easy things such as deep breathing, yoga or a brief stroll following meals can decrease acidity episodes drastically.
