With the increasing cases of heart attacks, it has become essential to know more about the warning signs your body gives before something major happens. It is therefore important to stay alert to anything that seems off from your routine, such as extreme tiredness, unrest, poor sleep, and more.

Dr. Alok Chopra, co-founder and consultant cardiologist at Aashlok Hospital, in his new Instagram post, shared some of the silent signs that people often overlook, thinking they may be temporary. But catching them early can truly prevent major heart disease. “Before any major shift in health, the body sends quiet messages. Noticing these subtle cues early is what truly protects the heart,” he said.

5 warning signs your heart needs attention

Shortness of breath

When normal activities cause unusual breathlessness, consider it a sign. Your body may not be pumping oxygen as well as it should. “Breathing heavily while climbing stairs, walking, or even lying down? Your heart may be struggling to circulate oxygen efficiently.”

Unusual fatigue

Excessive tiredness even after waking up and during routine tasks should not be treated lightly. “Feeling tired even after resting? If daily tasks suddenly feel exhausting, your heart may not be pumping efficiently enough, causing low energy levels.”

Irregular heartbeats

An irregular heartbeat can indicate an underlying problem, especially when accompanied with other symptoms. “Skipping beats, fluttering, pounding, or sudden changes in rhythm? These subtle changes can sometimes signal underlying heart stress.”

Poor sleep or restlessness

Disturbed sleep does more harm than you can imagine, and if it becomes a pattern, then it’s best to seek medical attention. “Waking up frequently, gasping for air, or struggling to sleep flat can also be linked to cardiovascular strain.”

Swelling in feet or ankles

When your heart struggles to pump blood, it can cause fluid buildup in the legs and lead to swelling. “Fluid retention in the ankles, feet, or legs can indicate that the heart is not circulating blood well, leading to fluid buildup.”

While taking preventive measures to protect your heart health, such as a balanced diet, daily physical activity, and healthy lifestyle choices, it is also important to be aware of silent heart warnings and take timely action to address any trouble at an early stage.

FAQs on why it is important to pay attention to warning signs for heart health:

1. Why should I take heart-related warning signs seriously?

Because early symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, or fatigue may indicate underlying heart disease that can worsen quickly if ignored.

2. Can early detection really prevent major heart problems?

Yes. Identifying issues early allows timely treatment, reducing the risk of heart attacks, heart failure, or sudden cardiac events.

3. What are common warning signs people tend to ignore?

Mild chest discomfort, unusual tiredness, palpitations, dizziness, swelling in feet, and shortness of breath on exertion.

4. How do warning signs affect overall health?

They signal that the heart is under strain. Ignoring them can lead to reduced blood flow, poor energy levels, and damage to other organs.

5. When should someone seek medical help?

If symptoms persist, worsen, or appear suddenly—especially chest pain, breathlessness, blackouts, or irregular heartbeat—consult a doctor immediately.
