Actress Indira Krishnan, who is set to appear as Kaushalya in the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayan, recently recalled a memorable experience working on Salman Khan’s film Tere Naam.
In a recent interview with Galatta India, the actress remembered the time she was part of the 2003 romantic tragedy Tere Naam. She shared a particular on-set scene in which she had to slap Salman Khan.
However, what followed turned into an unexpected and elaborate prank by the superstar and his bodyguard.
Indira recalled, “Before the slapping scene, Salman jokingly warned me, saying, ‘Aap thappad maarogi toh phir kuch bhi hosakta hai. Aap dekhlo iska phir kya honewala hai’ (If you slap me, then anything can happen. You see what is going to happen to her next).”
Things escalated when Salman’s bodyguard joined in on the prank and pretended to be serious. “He told me, ‘Ma’am aapne kya kardiya? Press waale aagaye. Aap van mai jaake baith jaao’ (Ma’am, what have you done? The press people have come. You go and sit in the van).”
Although Indira initially suspected it might be a prank, the convincing performance by Salman and his bodyguard made her believe the situation was real.
“When I looked outside, I could see media people there. Although it was common for reporters to come to film sets back then, it did not strike me at that time. They even said, ‘Ma’am, you will be banned from the industry. Kya kardiya aapne, thappad maar diya Bhai ko?!’ I started crying,” she recalled.
The prank lasted for nearly an hour before Salman and the crew revealed the truth. Indira shared that she was genuinely in tears and worried that her career might be over.
The ultimate pranksters
She also noted how Salman, along with actors Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty, whom she described as the ultimate pranksters of that era, were known for such antics on film sets. “They used to have prank sessions,” she said, adding that she had worked with two of them.
About Tere Naam
Despite the intense moment, Indira has fond memories of Tere Naam. Calling it a “beautiful movie,” she also praised late director Satish Kaushik, describing him as a “remarkable actor-director.”

Directed by the late Satish Kaushik, the film also stars Bhumika Chawla. Indira portrayed the elder sister of Bhumika’s character in the film.
The 2003 film revolves around Salman’s character Radhe, a rowdy boy, who falls in love with Nirjara aka Bhumika, a first-year college student. After initial hatred, when Nirjara reciprocates his love, a brutal attack renders him mentally unstable.
