Long before Pahalgam became the centre of national mourning due to the recent terror attack, the scenic valley in Kashmir had etched a special place in the hearts of many Bollywood stars. Known for its picturesque landscapes and serene beauty, Pahalgam has been a popular filming location for decades. In various interviews over the years, several Bollywood celebrities have fondly recalled their time shooting in the region—moments that now serve as a bittersweet reminder of the valley’s magic.
Alia Bhatt, who has shot in multiple locations across Kashmir, for Imtiaz Ali's Highway, once shared her love for the region. “I love shooting in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg… Kashmir has a special place in my heart,” she had said in a past interview, expressing admiration not just for the natural beauty, but also for the warmth of the people.
Alia also returned to the valley for her movie Rocky Aut Rani Ki Prem Kahani. She shot for the famous song Tum Kya Mile.
Salman Khan, who has also filmed in Kashmir, spoke about the emotional connection he felt while being there. “Everyone must visit Kashmir at least once in a lifetime,” he had said, referring to the region as one of the most beautiful places he had experienced while shooting.
Shahid Kapoor, who famously starred in Haider, which was shot extensively in Kashmir, once described the valley’s allure perfectly. “Kashmir is spectacular. Just sitting there and experiencing it with the visuals—it’s a great feeling,” he had remarked, adding that the atmosphere in Kashmir brought something unique to the cinematic experience.
Ranbir Kapoor, another actor who has worked on films like Rockstar and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in Kashmir, had said, “I have shot Rockstar and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in Kashmir. I am very fortunate. There is so much of warmth and peace in that place—its people and culture.”
Abhishek Bachchan, too, had called the valley “truly a heaven on earth,” a phrase that has long been associated with Kashmir’s breathtaking beauty.
These throwback quotes from Bollywood stars are now being revisited in light of the heartbreaking violence that recently unfolded in the same region they once praised so deeply. While the present moment is filled with grief and anger, these memories serve as a reminder of what Kashmir has represented to generations of artists—peace, beauty, and inspiration.
