Vignesh Shivan opens up on the hurtful comments after he went public about his relationship with Nayanthara; says, 'I was compared to a dog'

Vignesh questioned the judgment they faced. “Why can’t the beast land the beauty? What’s so wrong if the beauty chooses the beast? Life is so uncertain that a bus conductor can become a superstar (Rajinikanth). Reaching a certain place in life doesn’t come that easily,” he added.

The Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale has been all over the internet lately. In the documentary, Nayanthara's husband director Vignesh Shivan opened up about the public backlash he faced when his relationship with actress Nayanthara became public. He candidly discussed the offensive memes and harsh judgments they endured, and shed light on the societal pressures that come with being in the limelight.

Vignesh Shivan revealed the hurtful reactions they received, particularly focusing on a meme that compared their relationship to the story of Beauty and the Beast. “The first famous meme that came out was – no one can stop it if the beauty chooses the beast. I was compared to a dog. They said Nagoor Biryani (from Nagore) was being offered to a dog. The meme had both of our pictures,” he shared, expressing the emotional toll it took on him.

Vignesh also emphasised that their love came at a cost. “You have to pay a price for it. And we have to pay it monthly, sometimes weekly,” he remarked, referring to the continuous trolling and negativity they faced.

Nayanthara admitted feeling guilty about the impact their relationship had on Vignesh. “Sometimes, I feel very guilty that if I was not a part of his life, probably his life would have been a little more easier and maybe happier and better,” she confessed. However, Vignesh disagreed, reinforcing his commitment and love for her despite the challenges.

Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale delves into the life and career of Nayanthara, from her early days in the industry to her current status as a leading actress. The documentary features insights from prominent actors like Nagarjuna, Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Parvathy Thiruvothu, who discuss her journey and what makes her stand out in the film industry.

However, the documentary has not been without controversy. It recently faced legal issues when actor Dhanush’s legal team sent a notice to the producers for using clips from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without his consent. In response, Nayanthara penned an open letter addressing the situation and calling out the unfairness of the legal challenge.
