Amitabh Bachchan returns to host KBC 17

Reality quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati is known for its emotional contestants, warm exchanges, and host Amitabh Bachchan’s trademark charm.

But one recent episode broke the internet for an entirely wrong reason, it was the presence of a confident 10-year-old contestant from Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The fifth grader's manner of speaking to Amitabh Bachchan has sparked a massive social-media debate.

In a clip from one of the episodes that’s now all over X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, the young boy takes the hot seat and tells Big B, “Mere ko rules pata hai, isliye aap mereko abhi rules samjhane mat baithna.”

The megastar and KBC host, momentarily surprised, smiles politely and proceeds with the game.

However, the boy's over-enthusiastic interruptions continue, he insists on locking answers before hearing all the options and even blurts out, “Arre option daalo” when Big B pauses for dramatic effect.

Later, when faced with a tricky question from mythology, the boy exclaims, “Sir ek kya, uss mein chaar lock lagado” - only to answer incorrectly and leave without winning any prize money.

Amitabh Bachchan then gently concludes, “Kabhi kabhi bachhe overconfidence mein galti kar dete hain.”

Internet divided over Ishit’s behaviour

The moment has now triggered an avalanche of reactions online with many criticising the child and also calling out his parents for failing to teach manners to the kid.

Clips of the episode flooded social platforms, with hashtags like #KBC17, #AmitabhBachchan, trending on X.

A section of users criticised the boy’s tone, terming it 'arrogant' and 'disrespectful' toward a legend like Amitabh Bachchan.

One viral post read, “If your child has knowledge but not manners, he’ll never succeed. That tone was unacceptable.” Another user wrote, “Perfect ending. Arrogance got schooled.”

However, others defended the young contestant, suggesting he was simply 'over-excited' and overwhelmed by being on national television opposite such a big personality - Amitabh Bachchan.

Some viewers also pointed out that the show might have encouraged such dramatics for TRPs, with one user posting, “This could easily be scripted. KBC thrives on viral moments now.”

Leads to debate on parenting

Beyond this outrage on social media, the viral clip has also reignited a wider debate about how kids behave on television and the fine line between confidence and arrogance.

Many viewers questioned whether reality shows place undue pressure on kids to perform or appear entertaining.

Several parenting experts on X noted that social-media trolling of a 10-year-old is equally unfair.

“He’s a child. Correct him privately, not publicly humiliate him,” one user wrote.

Despite being one of Indian television’s most respected quiz shows, KBC 17 has struggled to regain its early-season TRP dominance.

Episodes featuring celebrity guests and viral contestants like Ishit Bhatt can draw temporary spikes in engagement.

Industry watchers note that KBC 17 has pivoted towards light-hearted, social-media-friendly content. But this episode also shows the double-edged nature of virality — the applause comes with backlash, especially when children are involved.
