Trimurti Films has moved the Bombay High Court against Dharma Productions, Namah Pictures, music label Saregama, and rapper Badshah, alleging unauthorised use of the iconic Hindi song Saat Samundar Paar in the teaser of Dharma’s upcoming film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.
In its copyright infringement suit, Trimurti Films, the original producer of the 1992 blockbuster Vishwatma, contends that the teaser prominently features the song’s signature hook line and musical arrangement without securing mandatory consent from the rights holder. The petitioner has sought urgent ad-interim and interim injunctions to restrain further use of the track, along with damages amounting to Rs 10 crore.
The petition states that while Saregama holds certain rights over the song, those rights are limited in scope. According to Trimurti Films, Saregama was granted only mechanical and distribution rights under a 1990 agreement and does not possess the authority to grant synchronisation or remix licences for use in a new cinematographic work without explicit approval from the original producer. The suit alleges that no artistic or financial consent was sought before the song was incorporated into the teaser.
Trimurti further argues that the alleged unauthorised usage amounts to a violation of both copyright and moral rights, asserting that the song’s distinctive identity has been commercially exploited without permission. The petition claims the respondents acted in concert, misrepresented their authority to license the track, and engaged in passing off by creating a false association with the plaintiff.

The suit also raises allegations of misrepresentation and unfair trade practices, stating that the unauthorised use causes irreparable harm to Trimurti Films’ proprietary and reputational interests. Among the reliefs sought are orders for disclosure of all licensing agreements related to the song, delivery-up of infringing material for destruction, and an account of profits earned by the defendants as an alternative to damages.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, the petition notes that Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2025. Trimurti Films has therefore sought ad-interim reliefs without notice to prevent further exploitation of the song in promotional or commercial material.
During the hearing, senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond, assisted by advocate Hiren Kamod, appeared for Trimurti Films. The suit was filed through advocates Rashmi Singh and Karan Khiani. It was also noted that Saregama has filed a caveat in anticipation of the proceedings.
The matter came up before Justice Sharmila Deshmukh, who granted time to the defendants to file their replies. The case is scheduled to be heard next on December 22.
