Thug Life trailer: Unexpected face-off between Kamal Haasan and Simbu hints at a raw gangster saga

The epic trailer of Thug Life, the supremely exciting combination of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, was just released, and fans are thrilled to bits. The trailer, launched at an extravagant event in Chennai, was launched in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi making the actor and director come together in a big way almost 37 years after their cult classic Nayakan (1987).

Starring STR, Trisha Krishnan, Nasser, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Mahesh Manjrekar in key roles, Thug Life is co-written by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam and will revolve around power, friendship and betrayal.

A Voice from the Shadows

The teaser begins with a gripping voiceover by Kamal Haasan: “You saved my life, you saved me from the Lord of Death. Our two fates were penned as one. We are now one, you and I.” Till the end.” Flashes on the screen unfold and we see STR's character - rugged, daring and apparently in the mould of Kamal's protege. Kamal’s narration continues:

“If I’m a lion, you’re the king of pride.” STR more confidently corrects him, declaring, “Majestic lion.” Kamal concurs: “Yes, your Majesty.”

But the moment their partnership is cemented, the trailer throws a surprise curveball — STR himself seems to be ready to pounce on Kamal, and this YA thriller looks set to have a gripping power struggle at its heart. His final line in the trailer — “Death and I have been playing this game” — promises a dark, ominous mood for what’s in store.

Thug Life is Kamal Haasan’s 234th film in which he plays the main lead and this venture is produced together by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies. Featuring AR Rahman’s musical and BGM, the film has Mani Ratnam’s trademark story-telling mixed with Kamal Haasan’s powerful visuals, making it one of the most anticipated epic gangster dramas of the year.

Revised Audio Release Date and Release Date

The audio of the film, which was initially announced in 2022, had been put off after the Pahalgam terror attack. (Now she has been rebooked for May 24. The movie is already scheduled for a nationwide theatrical debut on June 5, 2025.

With a supreme cast, arresting visuals, and powerful narration Thug Life is going to be the most celebrated movie of the year.
