Snapshot AI
  • Jana Nayagan clocks Rs 35 crore in advance bookings worldwide before release
  • Tamil Nadu ticket sales yet to open; overseas markets drive strong pre-sales
  • Vijay's last film before politics breaks trailer view records, fans excited.

Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming political action drama Jana Nayagan is already rewriting box office expectations even before its theatrical release. The film has created a strong pre-release wave worldwide, clocking over Rs 35 crore in advance bookings and positioning itself as one of the biggest openers of the year. What makes this feat more striking is that the film’s primary market, Tamil Nadu, is yet to fully open ticket sales.

Jana Nayagan, widely seen as Vijay’s final film before he transitions fully into active politics, has generated extraordinary anticipation among fans and trade circles alike. The buzz is not just driven by star power but also by the film’s political undertones, mass appeal, and the emotional weight attached to Vijay’s career milestone.

According to trade tracking platform Sacnilk, the film has already amassed approximately Rs 35 crore in worldwide pre-sales. Of this, close to Rs 7 crore has come from India, with Karnataka contributing over Rs 4 crore alone. The remaining and much larger chunk has been driven by overseas markets, where the film is witnessing exceptional traction.

Internationally, regions such as North America, the UK, and Australia have emerged as major contrizutors. In North America in particular, Jana Nayagan has reportedly surpassed the advance booking numbers of Prabhas’s The Raja Saab, underlining the sheer scale of Vijay’s overseas fan base. Early reports suggest that premiere shows in the United States alone have crossed 20,000 ticket sales, a rare benchmark for a Tamil film.

Beyond ticket numbers, audience engagement has been equally massive. The film’s trailer became the most viewed Kollywood trailer within 24 hours of release, reinforcing the hype around the project and its potential for a record-breaking opening weekend.

The only missing piece in this advance booking puzzle remains Tamil Nadu. Ticket sales in several parts of the state have been temporarily delayed due to certification timelines and negotiations between exhibitors and distributors. However, industry insiders expect bookings to open imminently, well ahead of the film’s January 9 release, which coincides with the lucrative Pongal festival window.

Trade analysts believe that once Tamil Nadu bookings go live, Jana Nayagan’s pre-sales could surge sharply, pushing the film into uncharted territory even before its first show begins. All signs point toward a thunderous opening, with Vijay once again proving his unmatched box office pull on a global scale.
