Veteran television actress Sudha Chandran has responded firmly to the wave of online criticism following a viral video of her in a deeply emotional state during a recent Mata Ki Chowki devotional gathering, saying she is not here to justify her faith or experience.

The clip, which showed her emotionally overwhelmed during bhajans, quickly spread across social media and generated widespread discussion — both supportive and sceptical.

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Ms Chandran said it is difficult to express the experience in words. “It is a moment everyone wants to live in,” she shared, before adding, “Maa Shakti aapke andar aake voh energy de rahi hai. I am one of those blessed souls aur mere zariye logon ko voh blessings mil rahe hai, it is the happiest moment in my life.”

She added, “I am not here to justify. I have my perception towards life. I have certain connections that I respect. Mujhe logon se koi lena dena nahi hai. Joh troll karte hai, acchi baat hai, khush rahe apne zindagi mein. What about those millions of people who could connect and resonate with it? Mere liye voh important hai.”

The Naagin actress added, “In my life, I have never thought about log kya bolenge. Even after my accident, logon ne kaha tha ki kya bewakoofi kar rahi ho tum. Lekin jab vahi ek success story ban jata hai, log usi ke baare mein charcha karte hai.”

She concluded, “Devotion is a personal issue. I don’t judge or criticise anyone’s devotion. I am not answerable to anyone’s questions or trolls. I am a self-made woman and I will continue living my life with dignity, respect and blessings from the divine.”

The footage that went viral shows Sudha, who has been a beloved figure on Indian television for decades, participating in a traditional prayer night. Dressed in a white-and-red saree with a “Jai Mata Di” headband, she seemed completely immersed in the spiritual moment, at times becoming visibly overwhelmed with emotion and even requiring others to steady her. In several clips, she appears to lose control of her movement and emotional composure, which stirred controversy online.
