Shah Rukh Khan has always had a gift for laughing at himself, and he showed that side once again at a very special moment in his life — the trailer launch of his son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood.
The superstar, who is known for his quick wit, turned what could have been a touchy subject into a moment of pure humour when the conversation drifted to his 2018 film Zero.
The big-budget film was one of the most ambitious projects of his career but ended up as a box office failure. Instead of shying away, Shah Rukh turned it into the punchline of the evening.
While interacting with actor Manish Chaudhari on stage, Shah Rukh was reminded of Zero. Without missing a beat, he said with a grin, “Producer to producer ek baat kahun… (Can I say something as a producer?).” He then added, “Sir, aapko jo bhi banana hai bana lena, ullu bana lena, gadha bana lena, mamu bana lena lekin bhagwan ke liye meri taranh Zero mat banana (You can make whatever you wish, make a fool of someone or anything, but please for God’s sake, don’t ever make Zero like me).”
The hall erupted into laughter, with Manish and Shah Rukh sharing a high-five, proving once again that SRK can turn even his toughest chapters into jokes that win hearts.
But the evening wasn’t just about humour. It was a proud moment for the actor as Aryan took centre stage with his first project as a director.
Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, The Ba***ds of Bollywood is set to stream on Netflix, with its trailer already creating buzz after dropping on August 20. Shah Rukh, visibly delighted, requested fans to extend the same love to his son that they have always given him throughout his career.
For Shah Rukh, Zero may have been a setback — the film, despite featuring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, and being made on a ₹200 crore budget, earned less than expected. But years later, standing beside Aryan, he showed that failures don’t define him.
