There have been increasing discussions about military service within the SEVENTEEN group, sparking curiosity and concern among CARATs (SEVENTEEN's fandom name). One SEVENTEEN fan recently seized the opportunity during a video call fansign to directly ask Hoshi about his upcoming mandatory military enlistment.
As is well-known, all South Korean men are required to complete mandatory military service. For SEVENTEEN, the oldest Korean members, S.COUPS and Jeonghan, are expected to enlist in 2024. Both born in 1995, they will turn 29 that year, marking the end of their eligibility for enlistment postponement. S.COUPS, however, is exempt from service due to a torn ligament injury. Meanwhile, Jeonghan has already indicated his impending enlistment, causing concern among fans.
Next in line for enlistment is the Korean 96-line of the group, comprising Hoshi, Wonwoo, and Woozi. With these members turning 28 in 2024, fans are increasingly anxious about their upcoming military duties. This led one fan to ask Hoshi directly about his plans during a recent video call fansign.
In response, Hoshi reassured the fan that he would not be enlisting this year but plans to go next year instead. This news offers some relief to CARATs, providing them a year to prepare for the temporary absence of the 96-line members from the group's activities.
