Filmmaker SS Rajamouli was expected to back a large-scale biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the founder of Indian cinema, tentatively titled Made in India, after he dominated the world of film with RRR.
The ambitious project was speculated to be directed by Nitin Kakkar and was reportedly one of the most emotionally charged productions Rajamouli had ever worked on.
However, the latest reports have suggested that the film has been put on indefinite hold, primarily because of scheduling conflicts between Jr. NTR and Prabhas, the actors being considered for the lead role.
According to the Hollywood Reporter India’s latest reports, Jr. NTR has exited the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic to concentrate on his Telugu blockbusters and Prashanth Neel's next pan-India movie, Dragon.
Jr. NTR was reportedly first approached to play the title role, but his schedule is completely booked with his current obligations, especially Dragon with director Prashanth Neel.
Following the success of the Baahubali franchise, the producers reportedly turned to Prabhas, who has a long-standing creative relationship with Rajamouli. However, it also seems that the actor will not be available for some time to come.
An insider close to Prabhas has revealed that he is completely occupied" through 2025 and much of 2026, with major films like Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 shootings.

Due to the unavailability of both stars, director Nitin Kakkar is reportedly to have switched his focus to Awarapan 2, which stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead. The director is reportedly proceeding with the sequel's production rather than waiting endlessly for Made in India to become a reality.
Remarkably, there are other projects in development besides Rajamouli's Dadasaheb Phalke. According to reports, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are also working together on a biopic about the life of the renowned director.
