For director SS Rajamouli, some conversations stay with you long after they end and one such moment is his exchange with legendary filmmaker James Cameron.
Even today, the director finds himself returning to that memory, especially as RRR continues to receive admiration from audiences around the world.
Rajamouli recently shared that he came across clips of James Cameron once again speaking about RRR, and the experience stirred something personal.
“I have seen his clips talking about RRR again and it made me happy once again,” he said. What stood out most from their meeting, however, was a simple yet powerful line that Cameron left him with. “We had a long conversation on RRR and the words that I remember most I like ‘you continue doing the films that you do’ — that’s one thing I remember from him. It’s a great compliment. I thank him again for that.”
Coming from James Cameron — the visionary behind Titanic, Avatar and Terminator — the words carried special meaning. For Rajamouli, it was not just praise, but reassurance that his instinct to tell big, emotionally rooted stories was being recognised at the highest level of global cinema.
As he carries that encouragement forward, Rajamouli is now fully immersed in his next ambitious project, Varanasi.
The film has already sparked immense curiosity, and its cast has been actively promoting it across platforms. During the title and teaser launch held a few months ago in 2025, the team even took the film to Hollywood, engaging with international media and introducing the project to a global audience.
Recently, the film’s social media team shared an interview excerpt featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, who spoke about his role and hinted at just how dangerous his character is.
Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha, the film’s central antagonist, a role that he has described as layered and intense.
The scale of Varanasi reflects everything Rajamouli is known for. The story unfolds over thousands of years and across several continents — beginning in Antarctica and culminating in the ancient city of Varanasi.
Mahesh Babu plays a dual role as Rudhra, the protagonist, and the divine incarnation of Lord Rama, while Priyanka Chopra Jonas appears as Mandakini in a key role.
