Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra starrer Varanasi to be ‘one part film’ with 3-hour runtime, confirms SS Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli directorial, Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra starrer high-budget magnum opus Varanasi is slated for an April 7, 2027 release and features Mahesh Babu as a time-travelling Shiva devotee on a cosmic mission.

Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra starrer Varanasi is a highly anticipated movie, with the fans eagerly looking forward to the release. The film was speculated to be a two-part movie, and the filmmaker SS Rajamouli has just shared an update on the rumours.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, SS Rajamouli confirmed that he initially considered making Varanasi a two-part movie for a brief period, but quickly dropped the idea.

The filmmaker said, “We considered it briefly and we quickly dropped the idea. It's a one part film.”

He also confirmed that the movie will have a 3-hour runtime.

Priyanka Chopra plays the role of Mandakini, Mahesh Babu portrays Rudra, while Prithviraj Sukumaran stars as the astute antagonist Kumba.

With a budget of Rs. 1300 crore, the magnum opus is being made on a gigantic scale and stars Prakash Raj in a major part. The film is reportedly one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

KL Narayana of Sri Durga Arts and SS Karthikeya of Showing Business collaborate to develop Varanasi. P. S. Vinod is behind the cinematography, with the visual effects by V. Srinivas Mohan.

Oscar-winning MM Keeravani composed the music, and filming is presently underway. It will soon be completed, and SS Rajamouli's planned promotions will begin.

The film revolves around Rudhra, a Shiva devotee, who is sent on a mission through time to obtain an ancient cosmic artefact. However, chaos ensues when he discovers the presence of an evil mastermind seeking world control, Kumbha.

The globetrotting film Varanasi is slated to hit the theatres on April 7, 2027, coinciding with the festival of Ugadi. It is the first Indian film as well as the first non-English film to be shot in 1.43:1 IMAX format.
