  • Fans await details on the film's title, cast, and crew
  • Rumors rise about Akkineni family teaming up with director Kalyan Krishna.

Excitement is already buzzing among Telugu film fans as Nagarjuna Akkineni confirmed that his next film is set to hit theatres during the Sankranthi festival in 2027.

Annapurna Studios announced that the movie will release on 15 January, a date that has long been lucky for the veteran actor and one that holds a special place in his heart.

While the release date is official, fans are still in the dark about the film’s title, cast, and crew, leaving plenty of room for speculation and eager guesses.

Sankranthi is one of the most competitive periods in Tollywood, typically reserved for big-budget releases and star-studded projects, and Nagarjuna Akkineni’s early announcement has already created a wave of curiosity in the industry.

The date is also significant for him personally — his 2016 blockbuster Soggade Chinni Nayana premiered on 15 January, and its sequel Bangarraju followed the same festive slot in January 2022.

Industry insiders are also abuzz with rumours of a possible Akkineni family collaboration, suggesting that Nagarjuna Akkineni’s son, Naga Chaitanya, could be joining him on screen, promising a multi-generational treat for audiences.

However, no official word on the cast has been released, keeping fans guessing.

There’s also talk of Kalyan Krishna Kurasala, who previously directed Soggade Chinni Nayana, returning as director, hinting at the possibility of recreating some of the magic from the earlier film. While this hasn’t been formally confirmed, the speculation has only added to the anticipation.

Meanwhile, Nagarjuna Akkineni is also busy working on his milestone 100th film, directed by Ra Karthik. Reports suggest that both his sons, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, may be involved in this celebratory project, though the makers are keeping details under wraps for now.

Interestingly, Nagarjuna Akkineni was almost part of another high-profile film, Dhurandhar, which released on 5 December and quickly became a box office success. Ranveer Singh played the lead, but many viewers felt the standout performance came from senior actor Akshaye Khanna, who portrayed the dangerous gangster Rahman Dekait with calm intensity and razor-sharp dialogue delivery.

What fans may not know is that Nagarjuna Akkineni was originally approached for this role. Known for taking on challenging and diverse characters, he was reportedly drawn to Rahman Dekait’s persona. However, scheduling conflicts forced him to step away, as he was already committed to projects like Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Rajinikanth, and Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula.
