  • Jana Nayagan's release delayed due to CBFC certification issues
  • Makers eye June 18, 2026, as possible new release date
  • No official confirmation yet on the film's release timeline

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan continues to remain in limbo after its release was stalled by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its originally scheduled theatrical debut on January 9.

While fans have been eagerly awaiting clarity, fresh reports now suggest that the makers are eyeing a new release window, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

According to the latest update shared on the YouTube channel Valai Pechu, the film will not be hitting theatres anytime soon. The report claims that if all pending formalities move forward without further hurdles, the makers are planning to release the H. Vinoth directorial in June 2026 instead.

The tentative date currently being considered is Thursday, June 18, 2026. The timing is being viewed as a strategic move for two significant reasons:

— it falls just ahead of Vijay’s 52nd birthday celebrations

— it aligns with the Muharram long weekend, potentially boosting box office prospects

Despite the circulating buzz, the makers of Jana Nayagan have not issued any formal announcement regarding the new release date. Industry chatter indicates that internal discussions are still underway, with June emerging as the most probable window if certification issues are resolved in time.

Earlier this week, Filmibeat reported that the censor clearance for 'Jana Nayagan' has been delayed yet again. The delay is reportedly due to the newly appointed revising committee of the CBFC not having commenced the review process so far.

Sources reveal that the production banner KVN Productions has not received any official communication, confirmation, or even an acknowledgment from the revising committee regarding the re-censoring process of the film. In the absence of the required paperwork or any status update, the makers are unable to proceed with locking a theatrical release date.

Current reports further state that the revising committee of the CBFC, which is responsible for handling the re-censoring of Thalapathy Vijay and director H Vinoth’s film, has not initiated the process yet. This continued uncertainty has left the film’s release timeline hanging in balance.

For those unaware, Jana Nayagan holds special significance as it is Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before he transitions into full-time politics with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
