  • Toxic faces multiple complaints ahead of its March 19 worldwide release

Just weeks before the scheduled 19 March 2026 theatrical release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the highly anticipated film starring Yash has been caught up in fresh controversy after a prominent Christian organisation objected to religious imagery in the movie’s teaser and promotional content.

The National Christian Federation (NCF) has lodged a formal complaint with multiple authorities — including the Film Chamber of Commerce, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the state government’s chief and home secretaries — alleging that certain clips in Toxic are offensive to believers and hurt religious sentiments.

At the centre of the objections are visuals involving Saint Michael the Archangel, a significant figure in Christian theology. The federation claimed that these scenes, especially as shown alongside objectionable material, are “inappropriate” and amount to a disrespectful portrayal of a revered religious figure. It also warned that obscene visuals filmed in the presence of angelic imagery are deeply offensive to the Christian community.

As per reports by India Today, Pradeep Kumar, president of the NCF, has demanded that the disputed scenes be removed — not just from the final film but also from all online promotions such as the teaser on YouTube.

The federation has called on the filmmakers to issue a public apology to Christians over the alleged insult, and has warned that legal action could follow if its concerns are not addressed.

This is not the first challenge Toxic has faced. Earlier objections were raised by women’s organisations and political groups over sexually suggestive content in the teaser, with complaints submitted to the Karnataka State Women’s Commission and other bodies citing potential harm to social values.

The film’s team and Yash have not yet issued a detailed public response to the latest religious sentiment complaints. With multiple objections now pending before authorities and regulators, Toxic continues to sit at the centre of public debate just ahead of its release — indicating that creative expression and community sensitivities are increasingly colliding in India’s film landscape.

Meanwhile, Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19, where it is set to clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the second film of the Dhurandhar franchise.
