Actor director R. Parthiban has finally spoken out about the controversy surrounding his comments about actress Trisha Krishnan at a recent award show.

In a video statement that lasted almost eight minutes, Parthiban talked about why he spoke about it  and cleared up some accusations. He also apologised for how things turned out.

What Went Down at the Event

On Sunday, Trisha Krishnan wrote on X: "I was informed by the organisers of a recent event that my name and picture were included at the last minute at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant." "A microphone doesn't make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder. Crude words without knowledge say more about the speaker than the person they're aimed at," she said.

The fight started when Parthiban spoke about Trisha's character Kundhavai from Ponniyin Selvan and said during his speech that "this Kundhavai should stay at home for a while," which quickly went viral online and drew criticism from many people.

In response, Trisha posted a strong message on social media, saying that a microphone does not make a comment smart or funny; it can only make "stupidity louder."

Parthiban explains what he means

In his video response, Parthiban first talked about the difference between making a mistake and doing something wrong on purpose.

He said that a mistake is something that happens without meaning to, while wrongdoing is something that is done on purpose. He made it clear that he never meant to offend anyone with his comment at the event.

He also denied Trisha's claim that he had asked the organisers to show her picture on the stage screen during his speech.

Parthiban said that while he was talking about actors Vijay and Ajith Kumar, Trisha's picture suddenly appeared on the screen, which left him surprised him as well. He further said that claims that he had asked to see the picture were completely false.

Parthiban said that before the event, he had watched a video of a discussion about how Vijay's political power was growing. He said that the conversation also brought up Trisha's recent public appearance with the actor, which had caused a lot of talk online.

When the actress' picture suddenly showed up during the award show and the host mentioned the character Kundhavai from Ponniyin Selvan, he reacted right away.

Parthiban said that he said what he did in the heat of the moment and did not mean to insult or attack the actress.

Talking about the reason he made this comment, Parthiban explained that he used the phrase only as a wordplay to rhyme with 'Kundhavai'.

"I said she should sit at home to avert any problems," he said.

Filmmaker apologises

The filmmaker said that journalist Rangaraj Pandey told him right after he got off the stage that he could have avoided making the comment. Parthiban took the suggestion seriously and asked the organisers to remove the clip.

But by the next morning, the video was being shared widely on social media.

He also said that he had written an apology note and made a video message around International Women's Day to make his point clear. He had already learned that Trisha had publicly responded to the issue by the time he uploaded it.

How people reacted to Trisha's post

Parthiban said he was unhappy with how things got worse online. He said he respected everyone's right to criticise him, but he was also unhappy with what he called an unfair interpretation of his words.

He also said that he never meant to say that women should stay at home and that he was sorry that people thought that way.

Ending His Statement

At the end of the video, Parthiban said that the whole thing had been blown out of proportion. He thanked those who backed him despite the criticism and said he would continue to speak honestly and always admit when he makes a mistake.
