Ranveer Singh’s spy-thriller Dhurandhar has smashed streaming records on Netflix, emerging as the most-watched Indian film in its opening weekend and leaving heavyweight Bollywood hits like Animal and Jawan far behind.
The Aditya Dhar directorial registered 7.6 million views in just its first three days on the platform, making it the first Indian post-theatrical title to cross the 7-million mark on Netflix — a milestone that outpaces the opening weekend viewership of Animal (6.2 million) and Jawan (around 5.2 million).
Dhurandhar, which premiered on Netflix on January 30, 2026, after an unprecedented theatrical run that reportedly grossed over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, has set a fresh benchmark for Indian digital releases. The film’s strong performance not only underscores Ranveer Singh’s pull on streaming platforms but also signals how OTT success metrics are reshaping the way film triumphs are measured, with digital viewership now rivaling traditional box-office achievements.
According to official rankings, the opening weekend figures put Dhurandhar comfortably ahead of its rivals: Fighter recorded around 5.9 million views, Pushpa 2: The Rule about 5.8 million, and even Animal — which previously held the top spot for streaming views — trailed with its 6.2 million first-weekend tally. Jawan, another massive box office hit, ranked lower in viewership with approximately 5.2 million across the same period.
The film’s appeal has also translated into broader Netflix traction. It has topped the Global Top 10 list of non-English films in several countries, indicating strong international viewership and engagement beyond India’s borders. Notably, Dhurandhar ranked at number one in countries across the Middle East and Africa, even though it did not have a theatrical release in certain regions like Pakistan.

With a sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, already slated for a March 19, 2026 theatrical release, the franchise’s momentum appears set to continue both in cinemas and on streaming platforms.
