When classical singer and actor Rahul Deshpande stepped onto the sets of O' Romeo, he knew he was entering unfamiliar territory. Known for his powerful musical performances and acclaimed roles in films like Me Vasantrao, Rahul found himself facing an entirely new challenge — performing his first-ever action sequence.
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rahul opened up about the experience of filming a high-intensity chase scene in Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest directorial venture. Sharing details about the demanding shoot, he admitted that holding a gun for the first time was intimidating.
“I had never held a pistol before in my life. My first shot was a chase sequence, and I did not know how to hold a gun properly. The action director told me, ‘No, you have to shoot with one hand.’ That was a learning moment for me,” Rahul revealed.
For an artist trained in classical music and theatre, transitioning into an action-packed cinematic moment required more than just technical instruction. It demanded confidence, physical awareness, and emotional control — especially while performing alongside seasoned actors.
That is where veteran actor Nana Patekar stepped in.
Rahul fondly recalled how Nana noticed his discomfort during the shoot and immediately offered reassurance. “Nana ji was very sweet. He saw that I was a bit uneasy and told me, ‘Don’t worry, just react according to your character, I will handle everything.’ I just reacted, and he managed the entire action. It was a very wholesome experience,” he shared.

The gesture left a lasting impression on Rahul, who described the moment as both comforting and professionally enriching. Acting in a high-stakes chase scene can be overwhelming for someone new to the genre, but having an experienced co-star take charge created a safe space for him to perform naturally.
O’ Romeo, inspired by the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, boasts an ensemble cast including Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar. With such a powerhouse lineup, the film promises gripping drama layered with action and emotional depth.
For Rahul Deshpande, the film marks not just another project, but a turning point — a moment where he stepped outside his comfort zone and discovered a new facet of himself as a performer.
