It has been a monumental week for Indian cinema and filmmakers everywhere. Payal Kapadia has made history by being the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This victory makes the entirety of India proud.
Bollywood celebrities like Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Javed Akhtar, and many more, have expressed their happiness on hearing the achievement ‘All We Imagine As Light’ has made.
Priyanka Chopra took to her Instagram story to laud Payal Kapadia and the team. She wrote - "It's a moment for Indian cinema at @festivaldecannes. Biiiig shout and congratulations to you all.” She tagged the team of the film as well.

Ranveer Singh also posted a picture of Payal Kapadia, Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam with their award and wrote - “Scripting history! A moment of immense pride.”

Javed Akhtar took to X (Formerly Twitter) and wrote - “Dear Payal Kapadia, heartiest congratulations to you. It is a great achievement. Very very proud of you. Do get in touch whenever you are Mumbai. Shabana and I will love to host you for a meal."

Earlier, Resul Pookutty, the Academy Award-winning sound designer for Slumdog Millionaire, also wrote a message on his Facebook account - “What makes Payal’s win so important?! Not just that she is from FTII, but she is from a group of people/student enthusiasts who are regular people who come from varied corners of India and signed themselves to be strugglers for the rest of their lives.”
Indian PM Narendra Modi also took to his social media to laud Payal Kapadia. The Prime Minister wrote, “India is proud of Payal Kapadia for her historic feat of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her work ‘All We Imagine as Light’. An alumnus of FTII, her remarkable talent continues to shine on the global stage, giving a glimpse of the rich creativity in India. This prestigious accolade not only honours her exceptional skills but also inspires a new generation of Indian filmmakers.”
