Mohanlal declines to contest AMMA Elections, likely to continue as President without voting

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) convened its general body meeting on Sunday, where key leadership matters were addressed. According to an Asianet report, former president Mohanlal has reiterated his decision not to contest if elections are held, even though the ad hoc committee has continued to push for him to extend his leadership term.

This comes after Mohanlal reportedly told the association in an earlier communication that he would not run for reelection if new polls were taken. The ad hoc committee had pushed for Mohanlal's continued presidency at the last general body meeting on May 31. As a result, it now seems that there won't be any elections and that Mohanlal's committee will continue operating without a formal vote.

After the Hema Committee report caused the then-governing body to dissolve, Mohanlal first resigned as president in August of last year. As a result, an ad hoc committee headed by Mohanlal was formed to supervise AMMA's activities.

According to the report, Mohanlal will remain in the role as president under the current structure. Leadership changes have also followed in the wake of the controversies. Siddique, who held the post of general secretary, resigned after multiple sexual assault allegations surfaced against him.

In January of this year, Unni Mukundan, the treasurer, resigned, citing mental health issues and work-related obligations. According to the report, Baburaj is now anticipated to assume the role of general secretary, and Unni will be replaced as treasurer by another actor.
